Yes, but not quite as one might think.
There is a box labeled "Launch" in the module options.
Untick it and it loads the details into the same page that the module is already on. Therefore the other modules you had on that page will remain present around the details view. Your modules don't have to be site-wide... they will appear on the details page no matter what.
I have found a couple of problems with this:
1. Google Adsense doesn't seem to work right when inserted as HTML using a text/HTML module. I'm getting around this by using one of the freebie Adsense modules.. seems to work, but the module is outdated and doesnt allow all Adsense styles.
2. Having every other module around the details only gets in the way of the article. I want the adverts and one or two other items, but not the entire homepage; where my articles are.
As well, this effect also makes a mess of the search, subscription and categories pages. Those items should not be bordered top and bottom by piles of other content.
What I really would like to see is a way to create a special page that the articles module uses when displaying article details. This would allow me to create a details page with my adverts and any relevant contextual tools.. like a print script, email this page script, and so on and have that page turn up when article details are viewed.
The same page would also then be much better for Search, Categories and Syndication.
