I recently started to receive complaints from users that when used the sites search mechanism (google) on the site, that it was still finding properties that had expired long before, and you were still able to access the detail view for that listing.

Now the funny thing is, when you go to property manager, it does say Expired.

On the listing view, and on the types module, it does not show that property available which is how its suppose to work.

But for some reason that property is still available by directy link, which the google search is finding it, making it a indexed page.

There are over 800 expired properties in the site right now.

There was never a solution designed to run the script to delete only those expired properties, or I would of just removed them.

If you could look into this, I would appreciate it.

Hmm, I've checked the code and I thought there was an expiry check but it's in news articles.

What do you want done with them? 404s?

Scott,

Since this issue only occurs on the view template.

What if there was 2 new tokens added.

[ISEXPIRED][/ISEXPIRED]

[ISNOTEXPIRED][/ISNOTEXPIRED]

This way, you could have 2 different brackets showcasing the view.

If the property is expired, you would have the ability to customize the template for [ISEXPIRED] and display graphics and information pertaining to that expired property, whatever the theme of the PA your using it for relates.

Having the google index is not a bad thing.

But having it still display the expired detail view is not a good thing.

There needs to be a method to display to the end user that, the property has been expired, and no longer available. I think utilizing the view template is the best method, if we have the ability to control the view through the new token.

Thanks.

That's an interesting idea - I could add those tokens in. I suspect that I should put out a message if the tokens aren't used though (for the people with existing templates)

Thanks. Yes I think it would add the best flexibility, while still keeping the listing titles indexed for google, but it would take you to a page, that has the template that has the listing expired.
