Hi Scott,

I have to allow certain roles to create their own albums but prevent them from adding to other people's, is this something that you are looking into, or should I go with another solution?

Best wishes

Barry

Quite a few people have asked for it, but I haven't had time to implement yet.

Hi Scott,

Is this underway? One critical thing on our page is to allow members to post their own galleries. A "show-off" site if you will. If this does not work with SG we will have to look elsewere. Otherwise the SG is very nice and easy to use.

How do you propose a person would browse simple gallery when people galleries have been enabled? currently the albums are configured by an admin and that is the default display.

We are basically working with the ST set-up. Actually we have two gallery types in mind. One is personal integrated with the profie where we would like to see a choice of public/"for Friends" set-up

The other one is a gallry for the user groups where group members can add their "contributions" to the galleries and then presented as random or so.

Happy New Year

I've been thinking a lot about how this could work. Ideally, photos are uploaded into albums by users. This means a site could have one place for photo upload and album management.

We would need to be able to filter the albums and photos to the logged in user in this scenario. But, there would only need to be one instance of SG and it would act a lot like photos work on FB or Geni.

Then I think you would need a way to present views of photos to other members. Groups is a big one. If I could tag one of my photos with a group ("MyGroup") then on a group page you should display all photos tagged with that [passed in] group name on their page.

The same could work with users.

I think many of us are beginning to implement social networking sites and find the easy of use of SG very appealing, but it's limitations as an admin gallery is preventing us from implementing it in new ways.

I think you might need to consider branching SG to allow integrations to concepts like friends and groups from other vendors. Maybe a "soft" integration like GroupID or UserID passed in from a URL or Session.

Directly working with ST or Active Modules would be even better.

Albums are a way of organising photos at the moment, tags are another, I'd be hesitant to introduce another mode of organisation.

Can we filter on tag if the username of the user became a tag?

Actually, this might work well. If you look at photo management in facebook for example, I might upload four photos to my albums (I can create new albums and only see "my" albums)

Let's say in three of those photos there are pictures of people and you are in those photos. Using the "tagging" feature in FB I can highlight you in the photo and select from a list of friends to "tag" the photo to you "Scott McCullough".

So then, I can connect that photo to you.

The same could work with groups.

The trick would be making sure admins can populate the list of friends and groups somehow (these would be user specific so we would need to send them in at runtime) and performance.

Would you have any concerns about using tags as filters and performance.

Obviously there would need to be some changes to SG to filter albums to a user (and create a "default" gallery for each user on init)

A last little detail that would be very nice would be to write the tagging into the story feed API for ST and/or Active Social showing:

"Scott McCulluogh was tagged in the photo COMDEX 2008"

It sounds so simple when I explain it doesn't it? Hee hee
