Scott,
I know we have had past conversations on the need for a free membership plan.
Arguably, you could say that if you need a free site access just have them register for the site.
But it is not the same.
On my site, I teach how to profit from DotNetNuke using proven marketing techniques.
I want to give specific free content, video training, and downloads to free membership subscribers.
I also want to give them the opportunity to upgrade their memberships to gold or platinum plans if they see the value in all of the additional benefits to those plans.
When you have all members in the registered user role:
- You cannot use the Subscription Content module to properly deploy a message. From my usage studies, if you set a message to Registered Users, the Gold and Platinum messages are overwritten by the Registered Users message. In other words, the Gold message is not seen and the Registered User message is - when a Gold Member is logged in.
- You cannot separate your list mailings to just Free Members. If they are in the registration role, all members get this mailing.
- With a Free Membership plan, you have the ability to set the duration of the membership.
A Free plan that would be assigned to a role, for example, named Free Membership and bypass the PayPal system is the only proper solution.
You would still require registration and then the optin to the Free Membership plan.
Please consider my request as urgent and I would appreciate community feedback on this subject.
Thank you as always, Buck
