I've always wanted to do this, mainly because the default stars only look good on white and little else.

It'd be handy if the stars folder could either be specified somewhere in the settings, or even better, included in the template folder.

And even better would be if they could be png files.. then they could be made to look good anywhere.

Or perhaps there's a trick that I could use to switch them?

Not the easiest solution, but I went ahead and pulled the image into Photoshop and cut out all the white background to make it transparent and changed to a jpeg, then changed the url in module.css to reference that file. But of course this is all only global configs and not per instance.

Because there is css in reference to the stars rating, you can actually create your own image folder under templates and place the css from module.css to template.css in each of your templates to make a reference that way.

I've actually moved borders and lightbox images to portal level to cut down on duplicate css and images making one reference I can use portal wide in other non-ventrian-modules as well.

Hope this helps out for now!

Thanks for the reply goBlanks,

I'm not quite sure how you're doing this... I can't see any reference to the stars in module.css? Or is there a trick to it?

I'm looking at DesktopModules/DnnForge - NewsArticles/module.css

Thanks for any further advice

OOPS!

Sorry Rob, I was actually refering to the PA module, and I just realized this was posted for NA. Thats what I get for just looking at most recent posts and not paying attention to where the post is.

One thing I have done though for NA was to copy over the stars from Active Forums and use those in NA.

Not that this helps much.......

BTW, I also looked at template.css and there is no CSS for ratings there either. It would be a nice feature to have.

:) ok that makes sense then... thought I was blind for a minute there.

I've got a set of block-shaped gifs I made a long time back that aren't aliased and at least look reasonably tidy on dark and light skins, but I'm definitely more keen on PNG per template.

I've searched all the way through the ascx and language files and can't see where they're specified so it must in the compiled bits somewhere. I really need to learn how to do that sort of change one day.

The images are in /desktopmodules/dnnforge - news articles/images/rating

Yep, I replaced those long ago with the ones I made, but they are referenced as gifs and can't be replaced with pngs. What I was looking for was where they are referenced from so it could be changed.. and I'm guessing that is in the compiled bits.

The suggestion to shift them into the template or portal folder still seems reasonable to me given that they are one of the most obvious visual components of the output... and are always the first thing to look bad on a non-white skin.

Yep, I agree, they are in the token code at the moment.
