Stipe76, some of us have recently switched hosting providers from WebHost4Life ("old") to WebSecureStores ("new")... we're comparing the difference between the two.
The "new" mailserver that I mentioned above is standard with WebSecureStore's hosting plans. To migrate, you'd have to switch hosting providers (which may or may not make sense for you, depending on your situation).
ps. If you decide to switch, use Scott's referral ID (smcculloch) when you do so he gets credit... it's the least we can do to support the site. |

I've been with websecurestores since January, and recently opened a reseller account with resellerchoice. My question was more of a general one reagrding migration of users if a server move is made.
For example, let's say I want to move all my users, domains, etc from rc to wss, what would be the best way to do this? Is there some sort of automated way to create email accounts on the new server, or is it all a manual move? |

I'm not aware of anything that would automate the entire process.
Though moving the domains is just a matter of repointing the DNS server to the new name servers, and moving the DNN websites can be easily accomplished through the Portal Templates feature, the other elements (email accounts, ftp accounts, users, etc.) are all manual jobs I'm afraid. |

I too have been a member of WSS for quite some time...
I have been very pleased with the results and uptime.
To clarify and reiterate some questions I noticed, Yes the domain alias
is each domain you have pointed at your install. So for example I have
an older plan, (I don't think they carry it anymore, since they started
the reseller plan) that I have 5 domain alias that I can use per
install, the trouble is, as someone pointed out, you cannot provide
each domain with their own email, unless you "Add on a Domain"... I
know it doesnt make much sense, I have 5 why do I need to add one on...
Their documentation has always left more questions than answers, but I
usually shoot them an email and get a response fairly quick. Under
their newer plans though I think you only get 1 alias per install,
which sucks if you want to host multiple sites on 1 install, you have
to add on each domain costing more money.
I like the plan I have, it was the $9.99 plan, (but with 5 alias), but
I was considering getting the reseller from the aspect of seperate DBs
and email is provided for each account as well.

I spoke with Jeff about the domain alias's and here is the quote I got (they are currently revising their plans to be more DNN friendly for domain alias's):-
For the people that you refer that need more domain alias we will just give them these if you can just tell them to ask for some more until we revise our plans. |

are looking into the email domain alias in smarter mail also.

| Scott, in my earlier post I just meant that I've already paid the extra "domain email addon" for a bunch of domains, so if they're revising their policy to allow for root email for all domains, then I'll ask for a refund on the addons. |

I know you weren't asking me, Scott, but I'd like to submit my report as well...
My experience thus far with WSS has been nothing short of phenomenal.
I even got an email the other day about a service outage BEFORE it happened... imagine the concept of actually notifying users ahead of time that there might be some downtime for server maintenance! What a novel idea!
And another funny thing... *MY* application has yet to hang the webserver at WSS (a common occurrance at WH4L)!
So far, it's been an excellent move. Performance is improived, and reliability is just LIGHT YEARS ahead.
Let's hope these guys keep up teh great work! |

Thanks Dan for the review, I have to share your thoughts too. They notified me about a 5minute Sql outage days before it happened.
Performance on this site used to be OK with WH4L, but it was just unreliable. My reliability factor has gone way up, see the log from host tracker here. |

Sorry to flog a dead horse but I was wondering if anybody received a refund from wh4l when switching from wh4l to wss. I would like to change to wss based on the comments in here and on asp.net. I have one host portal and two child portals, which will soon go live.
Thanks for any info
I'm not sure, I kept my account open.. |
