I was under the impression that some blog-like products allowed one Blogger to creat a new entry and link it to a post in the a different blog. I thried this isng the first liked URL on the Create Entry screen and pointed to another blog done with News Articles. What I got was two comment entries in Mitchel Sellers Blog saying in effect go back to my Blog entry if you wanted to read my comment.
How is this supposted to work? Any ide why two comments were posted?
This doesn't seem like a useful way to have a converstation on a subject that was in the original post. How should one do that.
I got the module installed, customized the templates and so far really like it, but haven't really figured how best to take advantage of all its features. You can see what I did at www.AgingSafely.com.

I have tried linking my blog done with New Articles to a post in a few other peoples blogs. It only seemed to work to one that was running New Articles as well. How is this supposed to work?

| It does use the trackback functionality and was compatible with .Text (now community server). I will do some testing in this area |

Scott,
I've been working on adding Trackback and Pingback to metaPost for the past few days and have found the following two sites to be really useful when testing both Trackbacks and Pingbacks.
This site let's you log in as TT w/ a pwd of tester so you can check for your comments immediately. It's a WordPress blog, so it's good for testing pingback functionality.
http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/TestTrack/2008/02/08/testing-54/
Here's another pingback testing site I used.
http://www.quietearth.us/webtools/pingback-tester.php
For trackback testing, I just tried posting to the DNN blog module which seems to implement Trackback fine.
HTH,

Scott, since I am ignorant as to how trackback, pingpack and other items like this are actually supposed to be used, much less actually work, could you please comment on how best to use these with News Articles and which of the many link tokens we should be displaying in templates?

| You don't have to display any tokens, it's functionality for auto-notifying other articles when you are linking to them and them providing optional functionality to notify your articles when they are linked to. |

My real question has to do with the process of actually using it? If I wanted to link a post on my Blog to this post on your blog what steps would I take.
There doesn't appear to be any way when entering a comment on your blog. When I Creat Article on mine and use the link between the two FCKeditor block to point to your that doesn't seem to work.
I assume that the goal here is to get enough info posted in the comment section of your blog, such as my summary, or at least a pointer that points back to my blog entry.

You need to make a link in the summary or body of your article, making sure that the FULL url is specified (some text/html editors cut off the domain part or use relative links). This all should automatically happen, there should be no manual process. It also relies on my site being able to request a page for confirmation as well. |

I just tried this with a link to your blog and Mitchell Sellers DNN blog. It will be interesting to see if they ever show up. They haven't yet, but I suppose that they must be approved.

I created a link between a blog entry on my blog with links in it to your blog entry about when you started programming and one to a Mitchell Seller's DotNetNuke blog entry (that I had already commented on). I did Mitchell's because it was using DNN's blog module.
Nothing showed up in the comments of either of them over the next couple of days.
Either I still don't know how to use this (most likely) or it is broke.
Regards,
/DaveS |

| I will be re-looking at this as part of the next big release I am making now. It probably isn't working correctly. |

Great --- I did have this working a while ago, but all that showed up in the bog that I was commenting on was a "OneLiner and link back" I really think that the summary ahould appear with the link back. I also realize that you may have no real say in what shows up in somebody else blog ;=}
Got a SWAG on when is the next big release will ship?

| I'm planning on updating this site with a new build by the end of the week and releasing the changes early next week (if all is ok). |
