While I am working on some of the new features for news articles, I am wondering how important is localization? Is there much demand, or should it be put on the back burner for a bit?

I'd be interested in a Croatian version. However, it's not too important at the moment but it will be down the track.

Very Important, as I will be using it in Norwegian. I could translate aspx files, but this is much work, and I would have to do it for every new version. No chance to translate emails etc.

Hi Scott,
I'll be using the module for our Italian User Group for SQL Server and for us is very important to be able to provide localization.

Cheers,
Gianluca.

Actually I cannot use it without localization. If not implemented I would have to tranlate everything in the code (does the module come with the source?)

Cheers, Philipp

Hi Guys,

If the articles was template based, ie.

[TITLE]<br>
[DATE] :: [TIME] :: [COMMENTS]<br>

[SUMMARY]<br>

Written By: [FIRSTNAME] [LASTNAME]

You could create a template for each locale, (ie I would not have to extract each locale's labels like other modules). This offers design customization, as well as allows you to localize a template for your culture, how does that sound?

The point is that I will use the module for custom installations for people that might not understand english at all.

With templates (which is good anyways) you still keep message strings like 'Article submitted. Thank you' or so and the whole global layout of the module.

I believe that any reasonable modules for 3.0 should be localized to fit in the whole concept. It looks like sort of unfinshed work when people visit a website in their native language and come across some foreign strings.

My 2 cents.

Cheers, Philipp

Ah I see what you are saying, yes I will extract those strings out as well.. The templates are just for display purposes, and won't apply to messages and edit screens.

FYI - I'm porting Private Messages at the moment, so it should be available in the next few hours (unlocalized), i'll be doing the localization for it after I have released it.

Will templates allow me to change the direction of the block, or should this be done through stylesheets? I need Right-to-Left display, in order to support Hebrew.

It will be nice if labels and messages support DNN static localization because each user can select its own language for it.

Very, very, very, very important. And I say more: it's very important.

I would say that the majority of News Articles is localized now, has anyone tried to localize yet?

Yes, I have localized in norwegian, and as you say, the majority is localized.
However the previous, next is not localized. and this is making it useless in norwegian for now.

Ah, I'll add them to the sharedResources resx for the next release. Please let me know any other text you find that is not localized.
