DO you mean type a into a dropdown list and have it filtered, like a winforms combo box?

I am pretty sure they would like the ability to be able to filter on multiple Categories via a dropdown combobox.

Hi,

what i mean is the capability of the DotNetNUke Repository project that i use currently in my site

http://www.edudotnet.it/Risorse/Programmazione/tabid/57/Default.aspx

In this sample i have two combobox for filtering by category and sorting by date/title etc.

Thanks

Stefano

Would tags be a better solution? e.g. you can optionally add the tags in a textbox, seperated by a space?

e.g.

BLUE RED YELLOW RAINBOW

would add 4 tags to an article.

Tags would be a great feature but would not replace a well designed Category/Subcategory system.

For wide open and social networking, Tags would make sense.
In a enterprise environment the categories and subcategories could be broken down by departments, and categories like helpdesk, Hardware, Software etc. that need to be predefined. Even possibly limiting editing by category. For example only someone in Finance would be able to edit "Finance" categories/subcategories.

If you look at the number of suggestions, comments and feature requests related to categories I think you can see that they are hot.

People relate to them.
