This must be me, because I don't see anyone else having it in the forums.  Were developing on the above versions, using the standard modules.  In using the News Articles module we're frequently getting logged off the portal - it seems to occur most on 'Publish'.  We had ben using it on DNN 4.05.03 without any occurances of this issue.  Any thoughts?

Can you reproduce the issue? Your saying it occurs on publish - does it happen all the time?

Any reason your not using 04.05.05?

This might be worth a try:

We had many web clients ask why they were getting logged out. The following is what we did.

If you try this, be sure to back up a copy of your web.config file

Note: 64800 = 45 days

Chris Hammond came up with this solution:

Have you noticed that since running your DNN website on the .net 2.0 framework you can't stay logged in for more than an hour? Even if you have the "remember me" option checked?

Well here's your fix. In the Web.config of your DNN instance find the TIMEOUT section.

<form>s name=".DOTNETNUKE" protection="All" timeout="60" />

forms name=".DOTNETNUKE" protection="All" timeout="60" />
Change the value 60 to something larger

<form>s name=".DOTNETNUKE" protection="All" timeout="64800" />

This should help you to stay logged in! A very annoying feature of .net 2.0 is that it actually follows this timeout, how dare them! ;)

forms name=".DOTNETNUKE" protection="All" timeout="600000" />
This should help you to stay logged in! A very annoying feature of .net 2.0 is that it actually follows this timeout, how dare them! ;)

Two good questions Scott.

(1)  reproduce the issue.  A colleague of mine is working with it, developing pure CSS skins and related display styles, so I'll check with her in the morning.

(2)  why no 4.05.05.  Thats what I wanted to go with, but I ran into trouble on a fresh install from the Starter Kit.  I've posted an issue in DNN Install It forum under the subject 'Install Stopped with a fresh 4.5.5, Installing Database Scripts'.  Were in development mode, but I'm hoping to go into production this week, so I'll get back to trying to get 4.05.05 going on the production instance.

Regards,

Michael

Thanks Buck - I've made the change on this site now. Do you know how to improve the functionality of the FCKEditor posting html code etc in the forums? I notice you had difficulties..

Scott, you are very welcome.

Yes, I am looking into the issue with the FCKEditor. By noticing, having difficulties, are you referring to the fact that I had to create images of text code to get my point acrross in the forum posts?  Arrrrrrgh....

Try embeding some flash video code in the editor. you better have your original code saved to notepad because the editor will hide half of the code after a save.

FCK jumbles it all up. I will do some research and let you know. I will also be looking into modifying the basic FCK editor and remove the linking ability. No need to give a malicious spammer a free ride.

Best regards,
Buck

Scott,

Had a nice chat with Kelly Ford at XMod regarding the FCK editor. IMHO - He sounds as frustrated with the html rendering as we are.

I have a call into Will at ActiveForums to se if he can shed any light on the subject. He has worked more with integration of the FCK edito in the ActiveForums moduler. I will keep you posted.

Thanks for the suggestion Buck.  I could'nt find this post, so I've picked the problem up in a new post  here.   I don't feel its a timeout setting problem I'm experiencing - I can get logged out within seconds.  The latest occurance was just clicking on My Articles - it was rock solid when I was logged in a Portal Admin.  I've since recovered the Site from backup - possibly not a great help for any debugging, but I've got to keep working on my project and I'm tired installing new instances!

Regards,

Michael

Michael,

When your are doing your upgrades, are you also modifying the most recent web.config file?

If not, this can lead to all kinds of quirks in the action of your site, missing file errs in your event log, etc.

Scott,

Sorry not to get back the you on the FCKEditor issue. I have done a lot of research. This appears to be a core team move to tighten security on DNN against cross-scripting attacts. I will keep up on the latest news about DNN 4.6. This is really stopping ideas and code sharing in forum groups such as yours and mine.

Core Security Functions

They were introduced to protect against cross site scripting and sql injection attacks.
