I could be wrong, but I had the impression that people were after the paypal button as a method to take payment for orders of hard copies of photos or items in the photos, not the digital files. The two options are quite different really... although both prongs of the same fork.

Some people want to use it online only, some want to order hard copies.

I think the EXIF data is seperate to this feature too.

I think in keeping with 'Simple Gallery' the ability to have one or more buy now buttons per image with a description would do the job.

If the layout was template based, you could add a link to go straight to paypal to purchase, would that work? The link could have the PhotoID, and maybe the Photo Name passed to PayPal.

I have been able to do this by hacking the XML feed in Simple Gallery. I modified the RSS.xsl file to include the information PayPal needs to process a shopping cart. I know this isn't a very pretty way of doing it but it works. I still think if an option to add a cart like the option for RSS has. Let's say for example instead of RSS.aspx use CART.aspx that is formated by CART.xsl. Then be able to add a XSL file that could be placed in the same folder as the images. This would allow each individual gallery to customize the cart the way they want. Here is the LINK to an example of what I am talking about. This seemed to be a fairly simple way of doing it, maybe it's too simple to really work. Let me know what you think?

Sorry forgot to mention to view the cart click on the Shopping Cart image below the gallery. I just replaced the xml image name in the gallery.ascx file to cart.gif.

You would need some sort of description - 6x4 matt print - a price along with a photo id being passed to paypal. From that you could work out what had been ordered and then supply it using the paypal interface.

That ultragallery module has just been updated with a pretty good example of this.

The developer has added a small dashboard module that operates as a mini paypal shopping cart. You click a purchase button on images that you want and Ajax deals with the cart. When you're ready you go off and make the payment. I haven't tried it, just looking at the newsletter here.

It's only set up for selling downloads of the images.. the alternative of processing an order for hard copies is not implemented. In any case.. it's an example of basic purchasing functionality to use for ideas.

So, are you then able to download full sized images once purchased?

Scot!

Couldn't you just add a "Buy Now" link url, we could then point to a product in store, from there we can decide what to, and what he could buy. Also, DNN now has a standard store.

Hi,

I know this is an old post, but I resently installed your newest version of the gallery and thought it would be great to sell reprints. So I found this thread and would like to know if you are still going forward with this addon?

Thanks

Neil T.

Neil,

Not at the moment, we're focusing on the community aspects at the moment but might address the sale of prints at a later date.

Chad's 2 cents:

Still would LOVE this feature in simple gallery if it could work. I'm on both sides of the coin, b/c we'd like to sell some of the media digitally and some of it in hard print.

Look into my eyes, you're getting veeerrry bloggy...

Take a look at our site http://photodimensions.net

We have built  a site to help photograhers and artist sell their work. We use Simple Gallery to display photos, and allow clients to select individual photos to purchase. The clients photo selection gets added to a custom built cart, with options to select Print formats, qty etc.  We do not allow image downloads at this time.

We will be adding more to the store, such as special print instructions and use lightbox to display the photo after it is in the cart.  One special item is: the customer can be a guest or visitor.  They do not have to register to purchase prints.

We will be completely done with the site, and custom cart module in  mid December. The skin and cart are built using dotnetnuke and custom coded cart modules. We use Smcuuloch modules where needed to complete the photo site.  I believe this is the first of its kind (cart) built for Simple Gallery.

You can test it out, by browsing the galleries and clicking Purchase Options.
