Hi Scott,

Here’s a few suggestions/thoughts on enhancements.

**Add the ability to set the order in which the albums appear on each module. (quickee solution - add a numeric field that can be sorted)

**Add the ability to hide the photo name from all displays (YOUR POST IS A GREAT IDEA):

What I have been thinking about is making the view photo screen token based (like news articles). This would allow you to customize the layout for your exact requirement, e.g. if you don't need name then just don't use the [NAME] token in the layout

**Add copyright/download protection from full picture view (right click disable)

**Add an email to friend link function (ala Robb Anderson post)

**Add the ability to set default picture for album view (when you are looking at all albums)

The gallery looks great!  I know it’s called SimpleGallery, but you’re soooo close to a world class gallery that I think it warrants a separate module listing and a new name!!

Should it be called "Enterprise Gallery" :p

I'll need to think about album order, I'm not sure if it should be a filter field (e.g. name, date created) or an attribute set (e.g. number). Maybe an edit album sort order screen similar to the edit pages in news articles.

In regards to copyright, do you think a watermark might suffice?

I'm still thinking about default picture, maybe an attribute on a photo, make default for album.

The new name works for me - that is if you want to keep two modules.  Maybe halt development on the simple one as its name implies and keep rocking on the other.

------------------
**Album Order - How about making everone happy.  I'm not a coder, here's my psuedocode attempt:

 FunctionSortOrder =   if
checkbox_sortbyAlbumName then SortBy (AlbumName) else if
checkbox_sortbyCreateDate then SortBy (CreateDate) else if
        checkbox_sortbyUserDefinedNumber then SortBy (UserDefinedNumber) else
        SortBy (Default)

------------------
**Copyright - watermark was really one of the few things that I felt was missing from your code, it is important.  Yes, adding it would be nice.  I've seen one that allows you to define the image of the watermark and its opacity - kinda nice (Especially if you merge/flatten the WM to the image).

*** HOWEVER *** I still think that the display view needs to be wrapped in a simple right click disable function that (of course making everyone happy) should be able to be turned on and off if desired via an admin checkbox.

There's still a lot of people who have no idea how to get to their browser cache folder or that it even exists.  But right clicking, that they know how to do.
------------------
**Default Picture - attribute of a photo via a single select checkbox seems like a good idea.
------------------
Anxiously awaiting the release of the new Enterprise Gallery  : )

Thanks,
Scott

Here are suggestions I like:

**Add the ability to hide the photo name from all displays (YOUR POST IS A GREAT IDEA):

**Add the ability to set the order in which the albums appear on each module. (quickee solution - add a numeric field that can be sorted)

**Add the ability to set default picture for album view (when you are looking at all albums)

These are core\architecture type enhancements as opposed to features such as watermarking, emailing, slideshow, picture rotating, displaying all possibly information on a photo etc. Most developers focus on these snazzy items and overlook some of these core type enhancements. This is where I'd like to see this module go.

To me, these are "simple gallery" enhancements (and not enterprise ). I like the idea of having a simple gallery and being able to customize it to look exactly how you want it. I consider 'simple' as not bloated with features and simple interface for the user. Having some nice behind the scenes admin stuff I think would be great too such as the moderation\upload roles option that was proposed.

I love this module. My opinion on new features.

I would like an enhancement to provide an email notification that a file has been uploaded by a certain User ID into a certain Album ID at a certain time.

As a side note, the suggested additions mentioned in the "Upload Permissions" thread would help me as well.

Scenario: A graphics design firm provides illustrations (.gif, .jpg, .psd) to homebuilders for use in advertising. The design firm places new work in an albumcalled: "To be proofed". The homebuilder client downloads the new graphic and makes changes. The homebuilder then uploads it to an album called "Newly Proofed", to let the artist know it's been proofed.

Related to this, I was wondering if it is possible for me to add new file types (.psd, eps) etc. whereby a simple icon would replace a thumbnail of an image?

Thanx!

I like the email notification as a nice extra. It's something I would probably easily add to my custom version myself (one line of nonreusable custom code  ).

It could be a feature of the gallery moderation. If something does need to be approved, this notifies the moderator. I may only allow admin for this though. I'd hate for someone to make a mistake and have moderation emails go out to everyone on the website.

If this doesn't become a feature, hypertexas, all you need to do is find the code where an album is submitted and add a single line calling the DNN sendnotification function which you can specificy from,to,subject, body fields and just hardcode your custom values.

I'm  new to the membership and have just started working with the SimpleGallery. I have a question. I'm needing to change the album filter dynamically when a user logs into my ddn3 site. This will also the user to only see theit designated photos. Is the album filter set in a sql table some where?

You'd probably need to modify the GetPhotos stored proc and the code to pass in a UserID (or whatever filter you need)

I've been looking at how to display a specific album within the gallery based on dnn userid. I'm going to set a cross reference between the userid and the album id using a custom table. Within the module view option is the ability to set the default album. Where is this parameter stored? I looked at the Simplegallery tables but didn't see any type of default setting. I saw how your getalbum stored procedure is using the albumid to retrieve the album and photo info. If I'm able to change the default albumid on login the gallery will work in it's current configuration.

You will need to actually modify the code to do this, you could do a lookup for the AlbumID and then only bind to that album..
