Hi there,

I have noticed a problem with the image handler. If an image has a file name with multiple dots between the name and the extension, it will fail to generate the thumbnail.

For example, try uploading a file with the name:

test.........jpg

The thumbnail image will not appear in the gallery, but if you click on the failed image placeholder, the full size image will appear as normal.

You might say, "Well don't name your files test.........jpg", however, it's out of my control. I have a user who uses windows with file extensions turned off. In fact they probably don't have any comprehension of what a file extension is, so when they name a photograph:

Oh what a lovely day....

The image is obviously called

Oh what a lovely day.....jpg

Thanks,
Adam

Thanks - I'll investigate it and report back, it does sound like an issue.

Hmm, this one is tough, the dotnetnuke core has a check for anything in the URL that has a ".." in it. (and microsoft released a security patch similar to that check as well).

I think the best option would be to change the name of the file on upload, but what to replace the .... with? (I'm thinking something like _)

Simon, when you say that that you think the best option would be to change the name on file upload, do you mean:-

  • The user should change the name
  • DotNetNuke should change the name
  • Simple Gallery should change the name

??

Thanks

Simple Gallery will change the name - the user won't notice anything different as the caption will remain the same.

This should be fixed in the latest build, can you test?

Hi Simon,

Thanks for getting that one in so quickly.

I've upgraded to the latest module and it all works perfectly...

Many thanks!

Scott, sorry to get your name wrong so many times! Oops!

I should have known better it's staring at me every time I look at my Professional DotNetNuke 4 book.
