So what do you think of the latest round of gallery enhancements?
A few features I would like to implement:-
- Upload Zip
- Sorting
- Albums
- What to do with photo's in gallery now? Would they automatically go into an "Unsorted" Album?
- Should there be a single album mode (like it is now) and a
multi-album mode (that would display the list of albums and how many photos in each)
- Ability to not auto-resize on uploading - this should be a configuration setting.
Is there anything I have left out?

Being able to specify the folder would be great. That would allow me to use the gallery as a way for specific users to upload images by role and have the gallery resize them for use within the editor of choice. Other than that I think you have it covered. |

| Ah yes - I had forgotten about that one. I need to add in some checks for security and disk space, something that I really need on a group of my sites too |

what I would like:
- for each user to automatically have their own album where only
that user has permissions to upload. (maybe select a role that will have their own album)
- Support for other media (videos, flash, wav, etc)

This could be worked in as part of the album support, I need to keep in mind the simplicity of the module though. Once I have implemented albums it should be fairly easy to make them maintained by different users.. |

Hi Ray, Your site looks good, what I am trying to achieve by album support will be something like:- I think a lot of the galleries out there provide some of the support mentioned before (like TTT Gallery). What I am trying to achieve is a very simple interface and incremently add better features while maintaining simplicity. Some of my users aren't very technical :p |

Not sure if this is something that you can handle in the module or not,
but I noticed that when you are in SlideShow mode, it does not maintain
your scroll bar position as you navigate forward/backward.
So for example, if you have a large header/logo image at the top and
are switching between pictures you have to scroll down each time to
view it.

I'll see what I can do to maintain scrollbar position, eventually I would like an option to popup a window rather then display it in the same window.. |

I bet this gets us away from the simple interface, but still... What about a js slidein the top to scroll the pics in album from left to right while clicking on one displays the fullscreen in the bottom? I think Speerio does that in his album (or was it someone else? Can't find it on ASP.net anymore...) |

Scott, how far away is the Album functionality?
I might be looking at using your module instead of the core gallery. The core gallery is a bit too much for us, but we'll see what happens.

I'm working my way down the under development list, hopefully I should have a release out sometime on the weekend. |

Regarding the albums - what if you would seperate the module in two controls:
- a viewing control that can be configured to show pics of a certain album, this control could be used in several instances in the portal
- a editor control that is used to configure albums and photouploads - this would be the central gallery control

I'm so excited to see that albums are on the way! I'm new to DNN and I tried the core gallery, but it was just so cumbersome and very flaky - so I went for a search and found yours (thank goodness!).
If you add enhancements to allow individual galleries/user, please keep it easy enough to keep a single gallery.
Thanks for all your hard work and I look forward to new releases. |

Lissa78, will do, I am in the same position as you for my customers,
they found the core gallery way too complex for them. So I'll
definately be keeping it as simple as possible.

Latest gallery (SimpleGallery.01.02.01) looks great!
I have one request, can you allow more text in the description field? I tried changing it in the sql table but seems that you have code that checks it when it gets posted. I would love to be able to write a story behind each photo but the current limit is 500 chars. It would be great to have at least 1000. I understand the drawbacks behind it, but i think the bennefits are greater.
An additional feature would be to have a seperate module show random images from the gallery in the home page (or admins choice) sort of like the latest articles module for the articles module. Ofcourse with all these changes you would have to call it something other then SimpleGallery
Thanks and keep up the great work! |
