For me a great feature to add to this module would be the ability to have special offers.
These would be for a specific time period and could be either a % discount, fixed amount discount or a subscription extension.

e.g. subscribe before 31st December 2006 and get 1 month free

or a 10% discount for this month's subscription

etc, etc,

This would then allow the subscription module to be used as a marketing / promotional tool also.

To further enhance the promotional aspect of this feature you could also have a seperate module which would display the special offers which could be placed on the home page to encourage customers to signup, kind of an enhanced version of your Content module.

Let me know what you think.

This is a great idea, I'm thinking of how to implement it now..

Would there be a promotion screen, where you could create a promotion and assign it against X plans. The promotion would have a start/end date, and then type of promotion would be % discount, extended, months etc (anything else?)

Glad you like the idea, it cam e to me last night when I was thinking about a site I am hoping to release soon.

That's kind of what I was thinking abstract the promotions so that they can be used / reused against multiple plans.

let's see
Promotion Properties:

Name:
Start Date:
End Date:
Promotion Type:     1) % Discount
                                   2) Fixed Discount
                                   3) Subscription Extension

Promotion Properties dependent on type:
Type 1
% Value:

Type 2
Currency Value:

Type 3
Period: (standard period selection hours, days, week, months etc)
Number: eg 1 (for 1 month)

A simple way to see which users took advantage of a special offer, it's always usefull to be able to find out if your promotions are actually having any effect.

Yes, this is exactly what I was thinking of, thanks for helping to explain it further, I've forward it to other users of the module for comment..

I have a need for a one-time setup fee with subscriptions. I could do this by having a 1 year subscription for 20 and each year renewal is 10 for example. Or would this be better off as a seperate option and does anyone else have a need for it?

Also, just noticed this post... available plan based on role(s) would work for my needs as well:

Are you working on implementing either of these currently? Also, I read somewhere that you were working on a portal subscription tool. Are you still working on that module and if so do you have an eta on the first release.

Thanks Scott for all of your hard work!

Hi Scott,

Just wondered if there had been any progress on this?
