Upgraded 2 sites for dogfooding to 3.2, so far so good.
I'll deploy some new sites using 4.0 after I launch a new server at the end of the week... woohoo! |

Hi Jack,
Sounds like fun. If you run across a link that describes a proper upgrade path for 3.2 and 4.0 can you post it here? |

I think 3.2 and 4.0 would have the exact same database schemas, except that the code has been reorganised for ASP.NET 2.0.
I will need to confirm this. |

| Scott, have you done any DNN projects in 4.0? If you have can you do a quick point form note on the steps? I'm having a heck of a time trying to sort out what needs to be done and what goes where. I wouldn't worry about it but it appears that my Daily Comic module isn't working with DNN4 (throwing an .xls exception) and I want to get that fixed up. |

I haven't yet -- what steps do you need, how to create a module? Shaun Walker will be posting some stuff on his blog this week I think.. |

Yeah pretty much. I saw that Shaun was going to do that but I'm being antsy about it. I don't like the thought of a module not working with a newer version of DNN even if it is free. |

It's most likely to do with the runtime of asp.net 2, it's a lot more stricter then the previous version. |

Since you guys are all over this DNN 4.0/.NET 2.0 version, I thought I'd ask...
I host at Maximumasp, (and have never been able to justify the expense but it always runs FAST so I stay) they've had a .NET 2.0 beta program for some time - it's a free account for testing. I am NOT a developer so I had no reason to ever get one.
But, I decided to sign up for this development account today and give it a test drive with DNN 4.
I downloaded the zip file for the documentation only from multiple sites and am finding all of them referring 3.1 for some reason. Maybe they distributed the wrong docs? Or did I miss something? I just want to read about the install steps.
Any thoughts? |

I imagine the docs will be updated and redistributed separately over the next few weeks. |

Can we expect major problems with all the third party modules, when going from 3.2 to 4.0 ? |

From the limited testing I've done I'd say no but there's a chance that a couple won't work. |

I haven't begun to think about 4.0.
The upgrade to 3.2 has its own challenges. The new API for sendmail has caused issues with most third party modules. I am waiting patiently for several patches from developers. |

I had no problems "yet" with upgrading to 3.2
But should I then wait before upgrading to 4.0, just to let the community fix there modules ( if any I use )
Give this a little time to develop further? |

| The problems I have encountered are to do with SQL 2005 and not really the DNN code. The SQL 2005 issues can be fixed by setting the compat level to 80 |

The third party modules, that I am aware of, that may cause you to wait on upgrading to DNN 3.2 are:
XMOD - Kelly has placed a forum post at http://www.dnndev.com/default.aspx?tabid=215&forumid=12&postid=6641&view=topic
Opt In Email - Chad should have a patch by the end of the week
Catalook Store - v 03.83.00 will work with DNN 3.2
Classifieds 3.0 - a replacement dll is now available from the developer (had made a helpdesk request, to the developer, at Snowcovered to receive the dll
AVCalendar - This module does not get upgraded often and I am in process of testing
I would test any third party modules that send mail before a production upgrade to DNN 3.2

Well, I have site on DNN 3.1.1 hosted by WebSecureStores widh 4 parent portals and number of child ones. I was wondering how to painlessly upgrade to 3.2.2 (framework 2.0) and in future to 4.x.x ?
It is possible to create clean install DNN 3.2.2., but what with all the work I done before ?
WSS answered my request with:
"We are not able to offer DNN upgrades due to the problems that arise during some of them we had tried in the past. You can download the db and recreate your site on your local computer, try to upgrade to DNN3.2.2 and then restore your db and site on our server."
I need some hints and experience of ones which have already done this. What to expect. What to do, and what not to do.
Help ?
