Can you give us the option for users to use their "Display" names in the PM. Currently we have the options for Username or Real Name.
With Active Modules 4.0, display name is the better option.
thanks for a reply.

Not only that, if you use the "Username" then anyone has half of the "Login" information. They only need to figure out the password.
So it is also a Security Issue. |

Scott, any idea when we can expect an upgrade to this module? |

| I can't give an exact date, but I'll try to get it out by the end of the month, there are a lot of enhancements to do this month already. |

I would love to see this feature as well. It is very confusing for users to send a message to someone via a user profile and then see a different name show up on the message window. It would be a big help if the display name were used for the messages.
I saw that this was something you hoped to add in by the end of November and I was hoping for an update. I know you are very busy and we all appreciate the work you are doing! |

I've been working on private messages today, including upgrading it to DNN 4.5.5+ and adding some additional permissions so you can restrict who can send messages. I will add display name in at the same time ready for a release tomorrow. |

I am finding even though I select "Display Name" it still comes up "Username". Yep, I did change the admin user settings in the module.
Scott, you still are a user on my website if you want to log in and check it out.

It should only come up with username in the display box. What about the send list and in the from/to columns? |

| I'll be replacing the find functionality with a jquery popup, this should allow me to remove username completely from the send. |

| Yes, to confirm, it seems as though you still have to use UserName when you compose - ""Send To" must be a valid username" - DisplayName is not always unique os it gets a bit tricky.. |

Rod, Why don't you post a query that Scott can use to pull the Smart-Thinker Friends list from the DB to populate a list of possible recipients? That way you could select from your friends list, or do a search on the portal users! :) Steve |

It is only from this post that I have learned that the display name is not unique. That seems like a design flaw to me. In reading about this some more I found I could change the user settings to just use the username as the display name and disable the display name on the registration form. I have not launched my portal yet so this was easy for me and it will probably save me a lot of headaches down the road. Here's how to do this if it will help anyone else:
Click on Users then Users Settings.
Under User Account Settings there is an option for Display Name Format.
Put this in there: [USERNAME] |

Bpro, That's why I suggested what I did...likely you will be sending the PM to a "Friend", so it would make sense to have them be an option in the address book. That way you will know the Display Name you are sending to is the right person. Thanks! Steve |
