Hi GreenFlash,
Can You test if it would work for Vietnamese too? I believe Vietnamese char are very simmilar to the French ( ...well after all Vietnamese alphabets were derived by the French colonials ) Here id the full convertion list here ̣̣(just look at the Unicode Hex and ignore the rest)
basically all I need is tp strip out all the accents and just leave the basic Latin characters
Eg.
ă > a
â > a
ê > e
ô > o
Ó > O
Ò > O
please let me know if it works
Thanks |

This has been changed for the next release - it is not a configurable option (no char replacement by default). Turkish is selectable as an option. If you want me to add more options, please let me know the list of characters to replace. |

Guys, why creating special national replacement packs when you can use one universal solution, at least for Latin character stes. Just now I'm wondering, why there is just Turkish replacement in News Articles. I need Czech!!! :-) My customer's solution needs Slovak transcription and I can imagine that our western neighbours (Germans of course :-) need replace ü with u also :-)
I hope that function like following one solve all those needs:
Public Shared Function RemoveDiacritics(ByVal s As String) As String s = s.Normalize(System.Text.NormalizationForm.FormD) Dim sb As System.Text.StringBuilder = New System.Text.StringBuilder() Dim i As Integer For i = 0 To s.Length - 1 If CharUnicodeInfo.GetUnicodeCategory(s(i)) <> UnicodeCategory.NonSpacingMark Then sb.Append(s(i)) End If Next Return sb.ToString() End Function
I implemented this function into DNN URL rewirte mechanism and it works like charm for page names with diacritcs in page name :-)
Btw., Scott, News Articles and other your modules are really awesome, worth of Gold membership! |

Hi Guys, Honestly I have no ideas what the Function codes above do ..but if it can strip out all the accent eg 'Việtnam' become 'Vietnam' then that is all i need :-) Glen |

Yes, it does exactly what you wite, "Việtnam" becomes "Vietnam" and "stříbrožluťoučký kůň" becomes "stribrozlutoucky kun"
