...sadly I haven't seen anything in the dnn sphere that I would consider ...
This is the announcement from KTomics about their wiki:

AND Now WWWiki is going Open source on September 30th!

I've never used it but have played with it in the sandbox, and it seems to be a solid product.

Hi Y01nk,

I have looked at the KTomics wiki but it lacks several features that OpenWiki has:
  1. Subpages
  2. Macros
  3. It appears that you have to edit a page in order to create a new one

That Wiki looks interesting, from my point, I need:-

* Somewhere to easily add/edit content that is based on categories (or even tags?). So the guide can be written in "parts".

* URLs that are able to be referenced, I like the INFO-2387 type identifiers too, I can refer to these in releases.

* Ability for the user to maybe comment/rate an item, not that important though.

* Ability for the user to maybe search the content.

* Ability for the user to see the latest update documents.

How have you been collating the data so far?

Here is another example of a KB type system:-

Paul,

I checked out your site and think it is wonderful.  NIce work!

I am looking for a new hosting provider, can you tell me who you work through?  I need a hosting provider that is fully DNN compliant.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would go with InstantASP, the problem is that it would be great if it was all one site (e.g. inside DNN!)

Trebor, I would recommend WebSecureStores.

I checked out websecurestores Scott,

They don't seem to have a way to communicate with them? Maybe I overlooked it but nothing (phone, sales e-mail, etc...) that I could find.

They seem reasonable as far as rates, but I wanted to ask them about how DNN is hosted (shared, manually installed, customer gets DNN portal, etc...). In addition, I wanted to double check on file permission issues that I am having with GoDaddy. I went through their KB and they comment that HELM (the online control panel they use) does not give you file access.

Also, on their hosting plan matrix they list DNN 3.x not 4.x - I want the latest, assuming their information is up to date.
http://www.websecurestores.com/HostingServers/HostingPlans/tabid/65/Default.aspx

A big piece of DNN and 3rd party modules is how they react in production on all these various hosting environments. Users have already posted how some 3rd party developers had to create a .dll to get around hosting providers restrictions.

The DotNetNuke.com site does not have a forum for users to discuss hosting issues which is a big mistake if you ask me. You read so many threads about the various environments unable to support DNN fully, which creates confusion over the fact if it is a DNN issue, module issue, or hosting issue as I discovered. All of which leads a bad feeling for those trying to embrace DNN.

If you have any pull, please encourage the DNN folks to consider a forum for hosting related issues. In addition, you might also want to consider a forum for that same reason.

They have a support email address, that automatically assigns you a ticket ID, etc.

Here are the contact details.

They do run 4.x, but must have updated that page.

I don't know of any problems people have had running 3rd party modules on websecurestores.

I'll see what I can do about a hosting forum, it sounds like a good idea.

I am now in the thick of investigating and researching DNN forums. It is surprising how many say they support DNN , when in reality almost every one of the servers are poorly configured and cripple DNN and potential 3rd party module installations. I think this problem is much, much bigger than the DNN community believes. This is very troubling for DNN, ASP, and module developers.

At this time I habve put the guidebook on temporary hold. I need a good hosting company so that I can grab actual screenshots of all Ventrian's modules. So I will continue to examine possible hosting providers and create a matrix for anyone interested in hosting and using modules from Ventrian and some of the other leading module providers.

Status update on a comprehensive guidebook for news article modules:

I have been spending the last month investigating the various hosting companies. As a recap for those just joining us now, some of the Ventrain modules are crippled due to the hosting company configuration of DNN on their servers.

Hosting companies often will handicap DNN or third party modules and impact the user experience with DNN or the modules.

I am working with DNN leaders to help create a forum for hosting related discussions. In the process, I have been aggressively investigating various hosting providers who promise compliancy with DNN and modules but in reality don’t or have misconfigured their servers.

Worse are those hosting companies that promote DNN but then limit you severly. Once invested they ask you to upgrade to open more features that are native in DNN but limited by their configuration.

Like any product or service design we need to take in account the product features itself and the various environments in which the product is used. With DNN and Ventrain modules we need to examine how hosting providers, server configurations, etc… have formulated their environment.

I discussed with Scott an opportunity to create a HOSTING / SERVER forum to discuss environment related issues. Once Scott gets to that I can start posting my research relating to environment issues.

“We may build the best boat, but if the lakes are dried up, what good is it!” is my analogy to help drive my point.

I have found a hosting company that seems to be working with me. I am reluctant to share their name just yet, as I want to test every ventrain module (or at least the News Article) and feature to confirm it is fully compliant with Ventrain moduels. Once I do, I will share my experience and post another chapter to the guidebook.

Thank you for your patience and please share any hosting company you are using and have good experience with proper operations of modules.

Hi Trebor,

Thanks for all your effort so far.

I've created a forum to discuss "DotNetNuke Hosting" and the "Hosting Membership" option, you can view it here.

Please feel free to post any hosts you recommend, and we can all share information on what and who works best.
