Scott:
I just want to bump this one to see if it is in the works. I use News Article as an Events Module since we are only alerting users of upcoming events in our field of interest, not creating events.
With that in mind is there a way to show archeived articles in reverse order and only expired. Our uses like to know the kinds of conferences/meetings and such that have happened in the past.
e.g. http://carbc.ca/Home/Events/tabid/218/articleType/NewsListing/Default.aspx
Thanx |

| How would you get to the list of articles that are shown in reverse order, I assume you want to display the articles in the normal order when clicking current articles? |

My suggest is to add a TOKENs for TEST the state of Articles and Comments in approval workflow. This is usefull in order to add a Latest module or a second istance of News Articles module to list the Item submited for Approval or Comments for approval. This scenario is usefull when News Articles Module is include in CMS portal with multiply users and multiply role (writer, approval, publishing).
for example I think that the following TOKENs are just sufficient:
[ISDRAFT][/ISDRAFT] for Articles only
[ISSUBMITED][/ISSUBMITED] for Article AND Comments
[ISPUBLISHED][/ISPUBLISHED] for Article only
An other questions about the workflow process is to add more workflow approval level. With use of role I think usefull to add one or multiply role necessary for approve the article and a select fields that indicate if all role is mandatory for approve article or is only one role is sufficient.
Thank in advance and Regards.

You could do something similar to the 'email' link in the standard template? Or we would have to build some more custom funcitonality in.

I could create a mailto: link with the comment and a link to the article in the email body. This could either go to the article author or be hardcoded to an abuse@ address.
Is this what you mean? Is there a better solution?
Thanks, Chris |

| Is there a good way to link back to the main article listing page from the article detail page? I would prefer for the link to only present on the details page. |

the best appreciations for the tempestivit of the insertion.
My suggest start from the state attribute of the Article. I write it --> "draft" state, I submit it for approval --> "submited" state --> I approve it --> "published" state. Now the Comments is not in draft state, but immediatly submited (right?). The approver role go into module and use the Approve link to view the articles submited, but you consider for example this scenario. I structure the Article in web site in Categories in order to view it using the same News Article module refered in different pages filtering any specific categories into any single page. The approver must go into all single page to find out the articles in submited state and approve it, or use the hyperlink refered in email message.
I think usefull to create a just one page with latest module reserved for approver role and refering the original article module in that to list all articles that match the categories selected for this role only in submited state to approver attention (an other latest are list articles with comments submited). The original unique article module is for administrators use only and include all categories, some for approver1, some for approver2 and so on. In the view pages filterd by categories I would like the menu template hidden (reserved for administrator only) becouse is for anonymous access only and organize in other way. The writer role (only draft insert) working with a single category assigned to in a specific page, or with some categories organize in other way.
It's an example only. What do you think ? If you have any other idea pls tell me it.

I agree, there should be token of sorts that adds a "Return" link. This is in lieu of the ideal of having a means of browsing straight along to the previous or next article in the list.
Chris, you could add an href="javascript:history.back()" type of link to your template so that there's a link to the previous page. This may not always return to the list (for example from addtional pages in a multi-page article, or if the person arrived from outside the site), but it would work most times.
Alterntaively, hard code it with a link to your main list.. but that again wouldn't do well if there were many ways to get to articles on your site.

Request:
Add These Tokens:
[ISANONYMOUS][/ISANONYMOUS] [ISNOTANONYMOUS][/ISNOTANONYMOUS]
To "View.Item.HTML"
Currently they are enabled in comment.item.html
This will allow display of HTML to specific viewers in my templates........... |

I noticed on there you said your IP address might be blocked - are you just putting it there to discourage people from SPAMMING, or does NA collect it with a setting? (sorry for going off topic!) If not, it would be great if NA and PA had the option for collecting the IP for the person who left the comments...

This would be a manual thing I'd have to do.
Whatever link a spammer would post, I'd have to verify the IP address, then by using Page Blaster, add the IP to my "Blocked IP" list, or blocked "UserAgent" list.
One thing you can do to discourage spamming is by changing any redirect links you have in the "comment.item.html" such as:
< a href="[ANONYMOUSURL]" > to < a rel="nofollow" href="[ANONYMOUSURL]" >
and visibly post to your viewers that you are using "rel="nofollow" in your comments. This tag is used by google and maybe other search engines, and basically when they see it, that link will not be indexed. Scott is using it in places in the new template, namely the "Actions" links.
WAY off topic here, but I don't use that tag just because if someone leaves a comment with a link to another resource related to my article, I want that link to be indexed and get credit. So, I control spam the good ole "MAN POWER" way.
But I too wish there was a good solution and if anyone knows, lets open a new thread and PLEASE share.......... |
