Scott,  I have found that when Launch Links is set in Admin Options, it forces some strangeness in CSS.

I have attached screen shots so that you can understand the behavior.

I am using a fairly complex skin with many panes. When the option for Launch Links is not selected in Admin Options, you can see the article view in screen shot 1 where all of my administrative pane view is enabled.

When I select Launch Links in Admin Options, it appears to load the Admin version of my screen, which has no editable panes (apparent in the screen shot 2).

CSS bug somewhere?

This will be a problem for me because we're a paid sponsorship model of a site, and advertisers aren't going to like not being seen in the right pane in the article Item view. I have left it disabled for now, but thought you might have some words of advice here.

That's just the way that a lot of modules work in DNN. You'll find that nearly any module that generates a new page view does so in the admin skin. I was shocked to discovered it for myself back here: http://www.ventrian.com/Support/ProductForums/tabid/118/forumid/4/tpage/1/view/topic/postid/7284/Default.aspx#7284

I understand that something will be changing about this in DNN 5+. Perhaps it will allow for a third skin choice just for those pages, but don't quote me on that - I don't know.

There is a workaround for The News Articles module.. sort of. You can put the main News articles module on a sub-page of its own, and use the Latest Articles module on your homepage. When visitors click on articles on the homepage, the details view will be displayed in the page where the main module resides. You can dress that page up with advertiser and other related content.

However, that only provides a single unique destination page option for all content sections (categories). If you want to have more than one details page, to match your differently-styled content sections, and also if you want to simulate having sub-categories, then you have to use multiple copies of the News Articles module and multiple Latest Articles modules as well. It also means your authoring has to take place on different pages, but that's just a procedural hassle.

Other modules like the core Events module don't have any workarounds, so it's best ensure that your admin skin is not a a special admin skin, but a copy of the public skin.

Thanks Rob.

Never encountered this in 7 years of using DNN. Maybe because I generally use the same public skin for admin.... derr..... This time I had a different Admin skin.
