I have set up property agent to work as a user profile module. The funny thing is that I like it even better for user profiles than MyProfile from DNN Fusion.... Go figure! Great module! 5 Stars *****!

jayvilla,

Any chance you might expand on how you set this up and all?

I can send you a link. I am running an adult website and therefore cannot post the link publicly

It's not too difficult, really. Of course you cannot tie it into the core user information. Not yet anyway.... (hint hint.. you listening Scott?)
You just set up custom fields for name, age, email, etc. and a form for a bio. Alter the layout if you want to for photos, and link to the new profiles on the home page. That's all.

You know Scott...

with a little tweaking to the module, I'm sure you could create a user profile module. I have had a ton of pms asking for a link to my site so they can see what I have set up. I didn't do anything major on my end..... just some simple changes to the template and wording. If you made changes on the back end.... you would have a ton of interest. just my 2¢

When you say "make changes on the back end", do you mean exposing profile properties? Or querying from the list of users?

Ummm... I'm not sure. I guess I mean setting up the module so we can integrate it with the core DNN user registration and some other changes to make it run more like a profile module.

Or better yet, somehow create a profile module and make it compatible with News Articles and Property Agent and let users have the ability to show their "contributions" in both modules on their profile page.

This is UBER. :D

Hi, so I am attempting to set up a userprofile using property agent. So far things are looking good. What I am doing is, The user sets up a profile before the can register successfully. In other words they have to fill out all the Profile info before there allowed to submit thier registration.I have about 15 fields for them to complete using the dnn core userprofile that I set up.Now what I want to do is set up a template that will use [AGENT:XXX] and pull that info in to the template so they dont have to fill out a profile twice! This seems pretty straighforward Except that I did not want all those properties available to them on the template as to not confuse the user into thinking they have to fill it out again. So I was thinking that I would Just leave one custom field up that they would enter there username and click update then the [AGENT:XXX] would pull in all there info and populate the template. They would just need to upload there images and there done. The problem that im faced with is that if I hide all the other fields from them, then those fields are not available for the property agaent search. Is there a way to acheive this and have the hidden fields available for search but not show up on the users form except in a detail view?

If You have any other suggestions im all eyes!

Thanks

I think.....................

One way you may be able to do this is to make all the hidden fields visible and "lock" them down so they cannot be edited, then update your descriptions for the fields that would show up in the "help" icon that would reference the user to go back to the DNN profile to make updates. You could also modify the ascx file to hardcode a link back to their profile, or add something to localization requiring the user to go back to the DNN profile to update their profile.............

I don't have any real good solutions, but I'll be looking into this as I'm trying to do a similar project and get rid of DNNfusion MyProfile...

Keep us posted on your progress, and if you have a live site, it would be interesting to see.......

Thank for the reply,I am myself trying to get this up and running so I can get rid of DNN myprofile. Not that it  is no good....just does'nt quite do what I want. Can someone tell me(i could not find it in the docs)weather or not property agent can use a token to tap into the  member isonline.I would like to have that functionality using property agent.

As soon as I get a decent looking result with this i'll post a link so you can check it out.

[AGENT:XXX] comes from the "owner" of a property, it is used to access the profile details of the property owner.

I'm not sure what you mean about putting a username in and having it auto-populated. The only way it could be a user directory would be if each user owned an item, you could do that by creating a property and assigning them owernship, but this seems a hard way of doing it.

Am I off the mark here?

Sorry Scott,I was thinking that [AGENT:XXX] could pull vallues from the core dnn user profile. Where XXX could be let say "About Me".So the user would fill in all this info during registration(require valid profile) process then redirect them to  a property agent form with the info either already populated for them(dont know if this can be done) or they enter there username ,which the form will then know what records to retrieve for that particular user. That way all they have left to do is add their photos.Does this make sense to you?If not I will try to explain better.I was hoping to do this that way I did not have to purchase another Module(daynamic registration).

Just wanted to say that im just now starting to use property agent and dnn realy. But from what I see(and im no expert) it would not take much to make this into a nice user profile module.I think this is why XMod does so well, lots of folks are using it for this(or like me trying). They both seem to about the same thing as far as setting up a user profile page-using templates and html. The one big advantage you have is the photos are already handled for the user.I see lots of folks on  the dnndev forums trying to get the photos to upload and resize correctly.Or they have to buy fatgoerges upload control. But yours you can move the order of the photos and  delete them much easier!Plus limit them by the number of photos a user can upload by "Number of Photos" versus a diskquotoa.wich gives a little more control. Just my two cents.

Ok,

I've done some testing around this. PA can pull default DNN profile information but is not aware of new profile fields added by host or admin.

The problem I am having, as with bennyj, is somehow making everything automatic. The biggest problem is assigning a property to a user without having to manually do it. At this point, I find using PA as a profile module would be creating two sets of user id's. One set for DNN itself, and the other for the PA property id. Not a good idea. Has anyone been able to do a workaround for this? For instance redirects, or querying from the user list?

Scott,

i don't know if your are listening, but the groundwork appears to already be there for a profile module with PA. I'm wondering how hard it would be to get it to work off of userid ONLY, rather that have an option to add new items and relabel it to a new module? Then you would have a new profile module, and do a little more extension to allow for custom DNN profile tokens.

The way I see it, PA is so flexible, I've already created a slew of classifieds sections, directories, and my next project is to use it as an obituary, and hopefully an EVENTS module!

I Second this.I think this module would be huge if scott were to take it on.Plus everyone knows it would be done right and have very good support!

Just making it clear on this point. I'm not saying PA is making a new userid, but when integrating with 3rd party modules by passing userid, in essence the "property id" would become the new userid in PA only. There has to be a way to reference only one property to the userid and pass in the same value. The only way though I'm afraid is what I posted earlier. Glad to hear from others........
