Hi,

Can I search through my properties by the first letter of a field, for instance, all properties with name beginning by A? I guess I must use a wildcard but I can't find out how.

Thanks,
Francisco

It depends on the custom field, but it won't search on the first letter, but rather the character in the text.

What I really need is to have a glossary for certain fields. For instance, I have a custom field for author (I'm using PA for a collection of books) and I'd like to show the alphabet with each letter as a link for the properties (books) with the author name beginning with that letter.

How could I get that?

Thanks,
Francisco

You won't be able to without modifying the code, I could add an option in to the custom field editor to have search only search from the start of the word.

It would be nice to have a setting (possibly available to the end user too) that can search from the beginning, or contains.

So end user could search if a field contains, but could also search where the field begins with using a radio toggle.

In a similar fashion, if the functionality is not already in place, "AND/OR" searching by the end user would also be great (also using a toggle).  It helps the end user quickly narrow the search results, to find what they're looking for.

So, end user could search where title begins with A, OR B

or end user could search where title contains road AND perdition

I'd also have use of the alpha glossary scenario described in this post.

Yup, else the wildcard search may return timeout if you search all characters in all words and customfields that have A,B,C...

Perhaps we can have a textfield in each customfield setting to define our own Regex to filter the search pattern? (like the validation regex)

So that everyone is happy :)

Thanks,

George
