Hi, I got the following error installing the source package for version 01.07.13 against a brand new dnn 4.9.0 install.

Info Loading Control info for 'Property Agent Search' module
Failure ExceptionSystem.Exception: Dnn load failed, aborting at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnAdapter_V2.ReadDnn() at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.Install()

Any guidance?

Thanks.

Why did you install the source package. You would need to compile that first I would have though

You may be right -- I'm looking for guidance here.  I had assumed this would work in the same way that installing the Source versions of the DNN core modules work.  There's no compiling necessary.  Perhaps the compiled DLL is already present in those cases.  I'm not sure.

There is some guidance about installing the source for the ventian modules, but it is pretty old and from the thread a number of outstanding questions on the proper way to set this up.  I had hoped I could just install the source as I would a regular PA and then make modifications, recompile, etc. without a specialized setup.

Any recommendations? -- Thanks.

There is an article here on how to do it. I don't use the core method yet, it wasn't around when I started packaging modules.

I saw that article; it's pretty old and had some outstanding questions attached to it that made me hesitate to set things up as you described. First, was the "MyModules" solution that you referenced -- the link is broken so my thought there is without having access to that or at least understanding what you liked about this solution would make your setup not work or not work very well.

The other, was with Philipp Becker's comment from 3 years ago that makes total sense, but was unanswered, "Why not just placing the source in the PA folder itself? Seems to me like repointing the module definitions to its new source is more work than necessary, is there a special reason to do so?"

Thanks,

--Shawn

This was the standard to way to package the source in the early days of DNN, I have not updated the build process to include the source in the resource files.

You only need to remap the module definitions if you want the satellite modules to appear under 1 folder.

The updated "my modules" is now called "blank module solution", information here.

Scott, do you have any tips on installing the source and getting a working module dev environment using VS 2008?  When I use the methods described I am not able to double click on a control in design mode and be taken to the code behind.  What happens is that it tries to add the metod to the ascx so it is almost as it does not recognize there is a code behind file.  Any thouhts or suggestions?

Thanks!

I use a project called BlankModule to load up my modules, do you set your solutions up like this?

Thats pretty much how mine is set up, but I do not see the option to set the project path when I load up the PA project in VS 2008 and I don't have VS 2005 installed. Is the latest PA souce using using the VS 2008 project format?
