My feeling is that the default number of items per page could be greater, generally speaking (let's say 50). I can't really imagine a case where you WANT a limited number of 10 items per page. Even with a slow bandwith you prefer to wait a while, and have one longer page, rather than multiple page reloads (I've been playing with my smartphone in the train last week-end to experience the possibility to administer a DNN website with a small device)
The advantage of a few longer pages compared to multiple short pages is when you have a list of items because you can scroll and select more easily.
When speaking of admin pages with multiple parameters, its quit different. We need SMALL pages because scrolling is a pain - just consider the page or module settings in DNN - how many times did we scroll down to reach a check box down the page ! In these cases a short condensed page would be much more ergonomic
