Is there a way to export or backup the listings data? I can see 6 months down the road and the client wants to totally revamp the look of the site or listings and this being an issue. Sometimes working in the online editor gets confusing if you get a more complex layout and a new template is the way to go. Changing templates would not happen very often but it would be nice to know you have that data somewhere. Or a procedure that we can use just as a backup. Once you get 100's of properties in there with lots of info and pictures re-entering them would really be a nightmare. Not a top priority but something to consider for future peace of mind.

Are you talking about the actual "data" back-up for the module? If so, wouldn't you do this with a DTS package in EM?

I'm thinking of including an "Include Properties" option in the export of the template, what I am concerned about is exporting 1000s of properties, the file might become very large.. ?

I would rather have a large file than no way to backup or move the listings.

Congrats on the good work. Your modules perform steady and smoothly. Reading your post on exporting listings data, I decided to ask what you consider to be the best way to backup a Property Agent based web site?

I have started a property video portal at http://property.cyprusvideoportal.com  which i am hosting at godaddy.com with a premium windows hosting plan. Is there a way to backup the module settings and contents appart from upgrading to a dedicated hosted server?

Thanks for all your help.

Has an export functionality ever be considered? I'd really need this.

Cheers, Philipp

There is already a export function that you can use on the search page, the contents of the export can be customised. The default mode is csv.

There is a module out on snowcovered that exports and imports your property agent listings. Here is the link: http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=10752

Before this screws up need to be sure of the following. I have a 4.5.2 install that is giving errors in many areas now and won't upgrade. It has PA 1.01 on it. I am created a temporary site to rebuild the site using export/import and a 4.8.4 install.

The hitch is getting the properties over. I bought your module to do that but unzipping it I see it is for versions 1.6 or 1.7. I'm quite sure that if I upgrade my 4.5.2 site with PA 1.6 or 1.7 the PA will break and I can't upgrade the dnn install.

Suggested steps to take or assurances to offer?

I would:-

1.) Upgrade your property agent in the 4.5.2 install
2.) Setup new 4.8.4 install
3.) Install property agent
4.) Copy the data between the property agent tables of the old and new install
5.) Adjust the ModuleIDs to reflect the new moduleIDs in your new site

There is a little more to it and you probably need to know SQL well.

I doubt the module mentioned would work on 1.01
