I have been thinking about a solution for variable handling in friendly url's and would like to get some feedback on it before i try and implement it.
There would be an xml file which stored the tab path and the names to give the variables should that tab path be encountered. It would look something like the following
e.g. for the games page which is a child page of products
So the url would look like the following
http://www.supercoolwebsite.com/products/games/god-of-war/2006.aspx
So then in the URL rewriter it would spit it out to look like
http://www.supercoolwebsite.com/default.aspx?tabid=70&name=god-of-war&year=2006
It could handle extra attributes by just specifying extra ones as var3, var4 which would be the default behaviour if a tab rule was not specified

I think you can do this today, by modifying the siteurls.config (which contains regex expressions).
You would then need to modify the module to write out those URLs though.
