Hi Scott et al,

Excuse me if the answer to this is obvious...

I have a live DNN site hosted with a provider that does not allow http rewrites hence I cannot use friendly URLs.

Will the FriendlyURL module overcome this? ... and would I have to enable friendly URLs in Host Settings?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately not, it uses a rewrite method similar to the core rewriter.

Why won't your host allow it?

Thanks for the reply Scott,

My host wont allow HTTP rewrites, because of 'security issues', that's the only explanation I can get and they stick rigidly to their policies. Oh well, for $300/yr its still pretty good value.

Hmm, looks like you are stuck with the non-friendly URL approach, they must have "check that the file exists" checked in IIS.

Who is the host BTW?

Scott, where can I find that 'check that the file exists' in IIS??

It's when you view a specific extension, e.g. you right click on a site, choose home directory tab, click configuration, choose a file type and click edit.

There is then a checkbox to verify if file exists

Hi Scott,

The hosting company is www.fasthosts.com.

Hi Scott,

In an unexpected but pleasant turn of events, having upgraded their servers to .net2, Fasthosts now allow url rewrites and therefore friendly urls are now possible. I can now check out your module.
