What about an option to specify a border template for pictures. I would like a template that looks like an old photo album with the little black triangle picture holders in the corners and a antiqued edge to the photos.

You can create your own image templates and select them in view options? The module comes pre-loaded with a number of border templates.

You can add your own in by creating a folder under images/borders/

Is this what you mean?

Yep. I that is what I mean. Maybe this post should be moved out of the suggestion forum then....

Does anyone have any borders they want to share ? Should there be a sub-forum for sharing borders ? Looking at the technique they are created I don't think your average user is going to be able to make their own.

What I was really looking for was something like this http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-255054.html . But, I wanted the tabs to overlay the corners of the photo. Would it be possible to make the template in the forground and filter the picture ? Then you could also use an antiquing technique like http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-417104.html .

I am not sure how the images are rendered but would it be possible to do something like this and overlay a transparent gif over the actual photo ? That way people could make their own templates by creating an image with a transparent region. There could be a setting for how much wider the template should be than the image so that you can vary the border outside of the photo.

I'm sorry if this is way outside the scope of where you want SimpleGallery to go..... I condider simple to mean that it is "simple" to use. That does not mean it can't be the most powerful gallery on the net !

I'm not sure about the transparent image over the top, the border files are currently split up into 8 files one for each corner and side.

Your probably best to take a look at what is there now, and maybe open those files up in a photo editor? Have you looked at the sample borders that come with the module?

Yep. Looked at them. It looks like you are currently building a border around the photos.

What I am proposing is reprocessing the photo with an overlay instead. It looks like other albums have done this with a third party app like http://www.imagemagick.org . I think this would allow you to specify an overlay image and it would stack it on top of the users photo. It looks like it could do a lot of other image transformations.

Does this overlay on the upload process or when the image is sent down to the client?

Good question. I found that software by looking at http://gallery.menalto.com/requirements . Not sure that is how they are using it. I think you could do it on the fly during client download. I do not think you would want to modify the original image upon upload. You would just stack the images and pipe the output to the display.
