Scott,
I think I figured out the root cause of my issue from a few weeks back: http://www.ventrian.com/Support/ProductForums/tabid/118/forumid/16/postid/42476/view/topic/Default.aspx.

I just downloaded Simple Gallery 02.04.11 to install and everything seemed to go well.  Then I went to the main page displaying the Gallery and got a big error.

Error: Club Photos is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: d:\accounts\fwtcamc\inetpub\DesktopModules\SimpleGallery\Controls\ViewPhotos.ascx(43): error BC30451: Name 'GetHideDownload' is not declared. ---> System.Web.HttpParseException:

When I went into look at the bin directory on the web server, it doesn't appear that the new .dlls were copoied in for version 10 or 11.  The file date on the Simple Gallery binaries is still from 4/6 which is the day I installed the original version.  To make sure it wasn't a problem with the server, I upgraded News Articles from 00.07.32 to 00.07.35 and noticed that the binaries were upgraded.  I also run the upgrade on my local machine and the .dlls weren't updated there either.

To see if it would fix the problem, I copied the .dlls out of the .zip file and manually overwrote the binaries in the bin directory.  I was able to refresh the gallery page, and the error above went away.  I also tested a Sync from a folder, and the DateUpdated was populated like you said it should.

I'm not sure why the .dlls didn't update with the the rest of the module, but that seems to be what happened, and now that I manually replaced them, all features are working as expected.

Thank wayne for sharing. You should have seen something in the upgrade if it didn't replace the dlls though?

I noticed that in the NewsArticle installation, it backed up the assembly and then put in the new version. I'm not sure what the installer compares on but it didn't work on SimplGallery. Here's what it said in the log:

Info:: Starting Installation - Assembly
Info:: Assembly already registered - bin\Ventrian.SimpleGallery.dll
Info:: Assembly already registered - bin\Ventrian.SimpleGallery.SqlDataProvider.dll
Info:: Component installed successfully - Assembly

For comparison, this is the NewsArticle install:

Info:: Starting Installation - Module
Info:: Module registered successfully - DnnForge - NewsArticles
Info:: Component installed successfully - Module
Info:: Starting Installation - Assembly
Info:: Assembly updated - bin\Ventrian.NewsArticles.dll
Info:: Creating backup of previous version - bin\Ventrian.NewsArticles.dll
Info:: Created - bin\Ventrian.NewsArticles.dll
Info:: Assembly updated - bin\Ventrian.NewsArticles.Secure.dll
Info:: Creating backup of previous version - bin\Ventrian.NewsArticles.Secure.dll
Info:: Created - bin\Ventrian.NewsArticles.Secure.dll
Info:: Assembly updated - bin\Ventrian.NewsArticles.SqlDataProvider.dll
Info:: Creating backup of previous version - bin\Ventrian.NewsArticles.SqlDataProvider.dll
Info:: Created - bin\Ventrian.NewsArticles.SqlDataProvider.dll
Info:: Assembly updated - bin\CookComputing.XmlRpc.dll
Info:: Creating backup of previous version - bin\CookComputing.XmlRpc.dll
Info:: Created - bin\CookComputing.XmlRpc.dll
Info:: Component installed successfully - Assembly

Hmm, I'm not sure what "Assembly already registered" is doing, I assumed you went through host -> module definitions -> install new module?

Yes. I went through the Install new module option, and it upgraded the previous version.

I am getting the exact same error message with the latest version.  I didn't take a screenshot of the install log as there were no error messages - but I have seem the same messages in the install log when I recently updated a custom developed module on their server - and in fact the dll for the module was not updated in the bin folder with the new version.

I'm using DNN 5.0.1 - and I'm pretty sure this is related to DNN 5x...

Update - I manually FTP'd the Simple Gallery dll files to the bin folder - and the application worked just fine.  I beleive there is some monkey business going on with installing legacy module packages in DNN 5.0.1.

Sometimes they install OK - other times you get the Assembly already registered message in the install log and the existing dll files are not replaced with the dll files in the package.

This could be a 5.x issue.  I am also running DNN5.

me too was stupid to upgrade to DNN5 without seeing the reminder that it's not reccomended for live sites yet... but anyways already upgraded and everything looked fine, I have just upgraded Simple Gallery and I get this "Parameter count does not match Parameter Value count. " when I try to see the photos or add more... I will try to replace the dlls and see what' it will change...

I went  to BIN the dlls were not replaced,  I have replaced them BUT no luck

get

Parameter count does not match Parameter Value count.

error on the page where  latest  photos  module is located ( unfortunately it is my front page and it used to work before I upgraed SG )

the page with  all the albums looks ok untill you click on the album

http://kotenok-gaf.ru/photoalbum/tabid/122/Default.aspx

if you click the album  you get  the

Parameter count does not match Parameter Value count.

again...

if click on the settings og the SG module  you will get  the settings... it used to be not working before I replaced the dlls, but it is showing now

 anyways I feel that I have successfully messed up my site again....

I don't think 5.0.1 is replacing the dlls for some installs. Try replacing the dlls manually if you can Mark.

I have no idea why the core has made a decision to not replace dlls based on some logic.

Julia, what error messages did you receive when you upgraded?

It looks like I'll have to individually version assemblies now, according to this blog post.

ok..i replaced the 2 dlls in the bin folder and it fixed it for me... I dont think its a DNN5 problem...I have been running 5.0.1 since it was released and started with gallery ver 2.4.5 and been upgrading up to 2.4.10, so that has be 4 different upgrades with no problems... I upgrade the gallery to 2.4.11 and im now got that error.

HI Scott

while installing I did not get ANY errors everything went smooth  and as usual, I briefly looked through the installation and it had no errors, I only started getting errors when I tried to look at the photos  or add more ( in other words USE SG )  then I started getting that error that I posted above, then I came to this forum  and mentioned the post above about dlls not being replaced and  that manual replacement helps to solve the problem, I went ahead  and looked in the bin, and mentioned that DLLs were not replaced just like the OP posted.... so I have replaced them, it sloved the problem with  the error I used to get while trying to look into modules settings page  but it did not solve the  problem of me being unable to see the photos...

Hi
there were no updates abuot this.. and my photoalbum is still messed up together with my page, this is the error I see, as I said jappened after I have upgraded SG, the upgrade went without errors, but when I tried to see the page with photoalbums I started to see errors and I came here,

If the DLLs are replaced now and there were no errors during installation, I'm a little confused on what is going on. Did you do anything like install an earlier version trying to resolve your issue?

I would need access into your site to work out what is going.

No it does not shed any light, your dlls are out of synch with the database.

I don't know how that occurred when you said no errors happened upon install.

If you uninstall/reinstall you will lose all of your photos.

Yep, I didn't manually update the DLL version. I wish they hadn't of added this functionality :p
