Over the past few days, I've been examining the lightbox code and making some changes.

The first change is that it will no longer close the lightbox when you click an image (while lightbox is open). It will move to the next image instead (like facebook).

The second change is play/pause functionality. This will be configurable at the "module" level allowing you to customise options such as show play/pause, auto-start, timer interval.

The last change is to reintroduce icons as opposed to text (this will be a configurable item). I have actually been thinking about a standard navigation system of icons that would include previous/next/play/pause. An example of another slideshow that does this can be found here.

If you have any additional requirements specifically about the lightbox, please post on this thread.

Just for interest, here's the mod I did the other day for another forum member:
http://www.crystalpool.com/ResidentialbrnbspnbspnbspnbspPortfolio/tabid/55/Default.aspx

Click on a pool on the right and you'll see the new button arrangement.

I think the way that the other lightbox has a panel with buttons on it is good because it means you could add or remove various buttons (e.g. email photo, rate, coment etc) and the panel could just grow or shrink.

Clicking the image to move along is also good. I also feel that clicking the background to close is still a good thing too.

It would also be great to have options to change the overlay colour/transparency and the colour of the border and description area as these would really help create variation to the generic black lightbox view. These are of course available in the stylesheets but would be nice options for the gallery editor to access.

Yep, that still remains.

Exactly, you can also leave your mouse in the same spot to visit the next image (rather then a constantly moving next link).

"It would also be great to have options to change the overlay colour/transparency..."

What about the concept of some preset themes for this? e.g. white, dark, etc, you would still have the option of overriding the styles as well.

I like your changes to the site too! The colours make it interesting

I have to say those actual colours were as requested by the owner, but it does certainly show how things can be made to look different from the standard.

Themes are possible. It sort of depends who is going to be expected to use the option.

If the portal is used and managed by an admin then css is fine as is the case now.

If it is going to be managed by a portal owner without development skills or access to the server then some sort of options on the view settings would be best - themes would presumably have to be created in advance by an admin person... and are the fore not really accessible by people at the album end of things

If the gallery is being managed on a per album basis by individuals who have been given rights to have their own albums, then it really needs to be usable by anyone. This could still be a bunch of pre-set themes or it could be done with colour pickers.

In my own version of the ideal future I would want individuals on my site to have their own albums which I would control the look of for the sake of good overall appearance. However, if the site were geared towards social networking with album content available on personal profile pages, then I would want to allow the users to choose their own colours.

Just reaching out way ahead :)

You should be able to see the play/pause enhancements live now.

This isn't the final layout, but shows how clicking the image moves to the next item, and how the play/pause functionality works (there is still an issue if you skip forward using next/previous while playing that I am sorting out).

I'll be working out a layout control panel similar to triptracker that sits down the bottom and is semi-transparent.

Great Scott,

However, I find that the pausing interval is not always equal. Can you look more closely into this?

Thanks.

Were you navigating using the next/previous when you were doing this? This part needs to be fixed up, the default interval is 5 seconds.

No Scott, I wasn't using the Next/Previous button.

It seems that in slow Internet connection, the interval is not always as long. Maybe you should extend it to 10 secs, that's more logical to me.

Ah, I think I know what the issue is, while it's loading the image on a slow connection, it does not start the counter after the image has loaded (but rather before)
