Be careful with 02.03.00 upgrades!

I've upgraded 02.02.08 to 02.03 00 and the albums have gone nuts with thumbnails and pages duplicating themselves and increasing many times over. I've sent Scott an email and have posted this here in case people want to hold off upgrading.

This is the first report I've had of the issue so far, can you tell me how to reproduce it? Are you using any "user" modifications to DNN, basically i'm now joining on the user view rather than the user table.

The photo list was joining on to the user view, I was unaware that the view selected users and joins on the userportals table, so you can get multiple users listed. I think this is where your issues came from.

Thanks Scott, I had to opt to restore the portal and go to bed in the end.

All I did was upgrade.. though as you suggest, it is a multi portal system with about 4-5 galleries spread across the different portals. I've got no core mods other than styles and layout changes in half a dozen core ascx files. I do mod the Simple Gallery layout a fair bit, but not until after I've confirmed everything works. In this case I had not upgraded since the last version that had the old lilghtbox because I wanted to wait until I knew I could use graphics for the buttons again.

I'll do a backup now and try it with the new release, and then post back here with the results.

If users belong to multiple portals, that's where the issue was occurring, I'll wait to hear your results.

The issue is the album filter for your 1 portal that is not working. I'm working on a fix right now.

Ok, Scott is still working on this. The 02.03.01 update fixed the replication issue, but there is a further problem whereby albums and/or sub-albums can't be opened in all cases and breadcrumbs also vanish.

Just letting people know it might be wise to hold off updating until another release is out.

Yep, just sent an email off.
The other bits are working now, but I've gone and to check other things and noticed that the random images module on the homepage of that test portal only takes the visitor through to the main module page, but doesn't launch a show, nor find the album, nor find the image (I'm not sure which it is supposed to do in this version, but it used to at least find the album that the image is in).

It is supposed to launch the slideshow. I am waiting for the site to load up to check now.

I see the issue, you are using [PHOTOLINK] in your random template, which unfortunately cannot be used to launch the lightbox, it will only link accross to the album.

If you want to make it work like it does on this site, use [PHOTOWITHBORDER], etc.

The reason is that lightbox requires full access to the anchor tag, rather then just give you the actual URL.

ok that makes sense (tho it'd be nice to not have to use the border :))...

however, even as it is, it used to link through to the actual target album and now it doesn't... is that still a bug or an intended change?

There is also [PHOTOWITHOUTBORDER] I think.

The linking accross sounds like a bug, as the photolink should still work.

Can you try the latest release (02.03.04) and let me know how you go?

I've upgraded your test site already.

Ok, that looks great. The random image is linking through to the correct album now and all the other bits seem fine too. Fantastic.

I have a couple of notes to consider:

1. There are now more settings that require certain tokens to be implemented. If the tokens are not present, then the settings don't work. This is going to cause confused forum posts and it may benefit from a quickfix like putting the token requirement in the tooltip for the setting or at least adding a note to the token listing further down the settings page. This affects the Border Style and the Launch Slideshow settings and possibly others.

There isn't a [PHOTOWITHOUTBORDER] token, but if there were and it provided the thumbnail, with a link, but no border, then that would solve the problem mentioned above as far as the Launch Slideshow setting is concerned.
I currently use (a title="Click to open this album" href="[PHOTOLINK]">[PHOTO] To get the thumb with no border but still linked.

However! I think that adding another token may be going down the wrong track. Here's why:
Shouldn't there just be a single PHOTO token and then let the Border and Slideshow and even the Link variations be dealt with by the module settings? I've gone in a circles writing this, because I've realized that a lot of the tokens are really providing module settings instead of just item location as tokens should. Perhaps more of these things should fall back into the module... this would let you keep the tokens to a minimum and make it more obvious where settings and options are to be set.

2. And I also noticed this: The new lightbox script is a bit too keen to close up shop. If one clicks anywhere at all on the page apart from directly on the Prev or Next links, it closes. Even on the image, or a single pixel away from the Next button will cause it to close. The old lightbox would close only by using the close button or by clicking on the dark surrounding area. Is the new close-anywhere system on purpose or perhaps a setting in the js?

Keep up the great work... and don't forget to repost your suite on Snowcovered. There are plenty of changes to justify listing it as a big update. I'm always thinking you need to get onto the Snowcovered front page and newsletter more often... and then buy lots of Christmas presents with the cash.

There is a [PHOTO] token, but its not linked, so I will probably need to implement [PHOTOWITHOUTBORDER] that is linked. The [PHOTO] token, really should be the linked one, but it would invalidate your template because you use [PHOTOLINK].

As for the clicking of the surrounds of the slideshow, I am aware of this, not sure if it's a good or bad thing yet, but I could prevent the click on the photo from closing it with some more JS.

I'll be posting to snowcovered and the DNN marketplace very soon, I just need to revamp the user guide for simple gallery.

I don't mind changing my templates to suit whatever you decide... so either PHOTOWITHOUTBORDER with a link or just PHOTO with a link is fine by me.

The bad bit about the lightbox closing is that the viewer loses their place in the slide show if they happen to click anywhere but precisely on the "Next" button. Makes the "Close" button seem a little superfluous too heheh.

I can see from other posts that there is a growing list of things people want, so whatever you can do is great by by me.
