Hi!
Will images appear in the gallery if I FTP them straight into the album foder, or do I need to upload them using your interface?
(Actually - my real problem is that I already have 100s of photos stored on my site. Will I have to add them individually into the gallery?) |

| I suppose I'm after an option/command in the config to parse all the files that I've added to the album folder via FTP and add them to the DB so that they're included. |

I can add an option in the next release to synchronize an album with a
file system, that should allow you to upload files through another
means.

I'm not sure it if would be much help for those folks who have lots of files already on the server, but even just a modification to the "select file" to allow the selection of a file on either the server or the remote pc would be excellent (and quite "borrowable" from existing source in core modules  ).
ps... another excellent module Scott. I had occassion to install it to post some pics quickly and it was just what I needed. Thanks!

Scott, does the image size settings in the module have any impact on the originall images?
If the image is stored at 2304 x 1536 and the gallery is set to a Width of 600 what will happen? |

When you synchronize it doesn't auto-resize, I was unsure on whether or not it should replace (delete) the existing file.
What do you think it should do?

I'm not sure. I would hate to see it mess with the original as you may want to provide a full resolution image for processing or print. Can it create another image? Anything over the 600 px for the average visitor is overkill. |

I think I will resize, maybe just add an _ at the front of the file name. (this will happen if the image doesn't meet the maximum width. |

Adding another image may not be the best option either.
Heres what I'm thinking.....
I am currently using Nik's FMP as a file administration tool. I give my users an Document, Image and Media manager. Now I know they can do all of this via the file manager, but we all know that most users will just upload the file to the root directory and forget about organization until the mess is so big they don't know what to do. If you give them a Image Manager where the root folder is /Portals/PortalFolder/Images at least you can get them to keep images in the correct folder.
Tie that into an editor where root folders are specified so images and docs can be managed with ease, and core files like skins and css are protected like r.a.d. you can see the value of the management system.
Now, on to the problem. If images are made available via the "Image Manager" it would be nice to insert a module instance and set it's root directory using the same folder as FMP. The downside is either the images would all get resized, or you would create new images effectivly doubling the images in the folder for the file manager.
It may be that the best solution is to have SimpleGallery use another folder, copy the images to that folder then have the gallery resize when doing the maintenance.
