Hey Scott,

The thread about "recurring subscription charges" was going strong for a while then just seemed to die out.  I posted a question (and an offer) a few days ago and haven't had a response. Is this a dead item?  I'm looking for recurring subscription functionality for a client.

The DNN Paid subscriptions do not appear to be working correctly (DNN 4.5.5 or 4.6.2).  I created a test role with a cost of $10 per day I setup a PayPal developer account and did some testing.  The subscription gets created on Paypal and the recurring charges get processed but the security roles for don't get assinged.  After completing the Paypal transaction I am returned to my portal and I check my account and I still have the subscribe link and there is no "Expiry Date".  I do not have the role assigned to the account.  This is being done on a development server that has full internet access.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The Ventrian Subscription Tools work but I need the ability for additional functionaltiy.

  • users to select multiple subscriptions (which ventrian does) but it combines all subscriptions into a single transaction.  This is a problem because...
  • each subscriptions could have a different amount
  • each subscriptions could have a different period (monthly, yearly, quarterly

Your right about the multiple subscription and recurring charges, in this scenario you would probably be redirected on each click. Something that would trigger when accepting recurring subscriptions.

Subscriptions can have a different amount already (because of plan). Would you have a number of plans to choose from that would be for different subscriptions and different periods?

Also, I assume your not testing on localhost, PayPal needs to be able to contact your portal for the IPN notification.

Hey Scott, thanks for the quick reply...

First for the easy answer :-)  I am not testing on a localhost install.  I have a full flegged web server setup with a real URL.  When I test using your subscription tools everything comes back from paypal fine and the roles get assigned.  The standard DNN subscription method does not assign the roles.  The subscription created gets "billed" repeatedly according to the recurrance setup on the role but that's it -- the user never gets assigned the role.

As for using your module, I can't say for sure that there will be subscriptions with both a different dollar amount and different subscription period but knowing that the number of subscription options will ultimately be in the hundreds I think we will run into it.  I've been studying the Paypal documentation and I think this may be a tough  one.  Although based on what I've seen from you I think you could come up with something :-)

One more thing... I have to retest this but I believe that when I was testing previously cancelling a subscription created using your module on the Paypal account DID NOT remove the role from the user.  Do you know if it should or is this a limitation with Paypal subscriptions?

Thanks for your attention on this.

Chuck R.

P.S. any update on the enhancements that were being discussed in the other post?  Are any of them on the horizon?
