Hi all,
I'm trying to determine the best method for taking payments for portal hosting.
The scenario is:
One year fee in advance gives the portal owner access to their own portal, but not as an administrator, only as an assigned role. Thereafter, the payments would reduce to quarterly or possibly even monthly.
I'm not so fussed if I have to do something manually at the start, but I would like the remainder of the billing and payment processing to happen automatically over time with notifications emailed out to clients as needed. The portal would either expire automatically a period after non-payment or I would be notified of non-payment after a period and then close the portal myself.
In my arsenal are:
- Ventrian's Subscription tools
- Onyaktech's Portal Sign-up
- Payal Subscriptions management
- Whatever is built into DNN
Has anyone set up something like this? In particular, what does Scott's module actually do? Does it enable/disable entire portals or just individual modules? Or does it assign a role and then I can assign that role as content owner on a portal? Does Scott's module make use of the PayPal subscriptions system or is it completely separate?
PayPal's own system generates a button that can be placed on a page and it then deals with all the billing. I would have to provide the portal manually at the DNN end, but apart from that it does look like a useful system. Does anyone know if it is different from Subscription Tools.. or in what way? (I'm having trouble finding any up-to-date info on Subscription Tools anyway)
Onyak's Portal Sign-up does a whole raft of things, but I'm not sure if it handles the recurring billing in any useful manner. I'm wondering if I can set it up to work with either Ventrian Subscription Tools, or if it might work out of the box with Paypal's subscription system.
And then of course there is all the Paypal stuff one can see in various DNN pages. Is it of any use here?
Any comments on any of this are very much appreciated.
