I have the need for a more powerful subscription service than DNN provides, and Subscription Tools appears to do a lot of what I'm looking for (I'd rather not have to write something from scratch), however I cannot tell from the online documentation if it really does everything I need or not.

I need the following:

  • Subscription associated with Roles (i.e. when you pay for a subscription, your account is automatically assigned a role in DNN).
  • Subscription Options listed at same time as Registration (i.e. the DNN way of registering, then going to account to select role to pay for is too klunky a solution)
  • "Inheritable" subscription options, meaning if you pay for RoleB, all of RoleA is included (I know this can be accomplished by setting the proper roles on each page, but that feels like a "bad smell" and an area that could cause a maintenance problem).
  • Recurring Payments, so that once a month everyone gets charged again for their particular subscription.
  • Payment Failure to assign to a Role (i.e. if the recurring payment fails, then the user is "downgraded" to RoleX).
  • Trial-to-Normal feature (i.e. the ability to offer a trial period at X-cost that immediately bumps up to normal price at the start of the next month). I know there's a trial in DNN, but wasn't sure if it auto-bumped-up or not.
  • Intuitive display of user's subscription options in their page (I guess just a module added to a custom Account page).

In addition to Subscription options, Reseller/Vendor options are needed. If someone refers a user to my site, they get x-% of the monthly subscription. Does the Subscription Tools offer anything that would A) have any mechanisms for a user to joing based on a referral code (either a field on subscription, or "replicated" site, i.e. myvendor.mysite.com/register),  B) allow vendors to see who has subscribed, C) provide any kind of payment mechanisms (PayPal, ACH, etc)

Thanks,

-shnar

Hi Shnar,

The answers are:-

[YES] Subscription associated with Roles (i.e. when you pay for a subscription, your account is automatically assigned a role in DNN).

[NOT YET] Subscription Options listed at same time as Registration (i.e. the DNN way of registering, then going to account to select role to pay for is too klunky a solution)

[NO - PAYMENTS ARE NOT RECURRING] Recurring Payments, so that once a month everyone gets charged again for their particular subscription.

[YES - ROLES HAVE EXPIRY DATE] Payment Failure to assign to a Role (i.e. if the recurring payment fails, then the user is "downgraded" to RoleX).

[NO BUT GOOD IDEA] Trial-to-Normal feature (i.e. the ability to offer a trial period at X-cost that immediately bumps up to normal price at the start of the next month). I know there's a trial in DNN, but wasn't sure if it auto-bumped-up or not.

[YES - OPTIONS TO RENEW, SEE RECEIPTS, ETC] Intuitive display of user's subscription options in their page (I guess just a module added to a custom Account page).

No reseller functionality yet and only PayPal is offered.

So, did this feature make it into the module?

If not, are there any modules that do a one step or wizard based registration plus subscription?

There will be some changes released shortly (working on it for a subscriber) where you can signup using the core registration at the same time.

Within the next 2 weeks.

Implementation of a wizard for for:-

Step 1: Select Subscription
Step 2: Register
Step 3: Payment
Step 4: Finish (Grant access)

This is a sponsored change from another user, will it meet your needs?

It will be a great start. Hopefully we can also approach Authorize.net as a viable alternative at some point?

Is there any way to integrate it all into one page? Conversion rates are definitely better the less number of pages you have to fill out.

This would be awesome for my site as well...  Do we have a time-table for that?

Thanks.

Forgive my ignorance- does that mean you have to create it for each indivual user?  Or once it's working for one user, it will be available for all of us?

Thanks.

What's update on this?
Likely? Not likely?

I have a client that wants this for September, but I don't know what to tell him.

I recently had some correspondence with Scott on this.  Apparently Scott was implementing these changes for another user that was subsidizing the development.  That user has since backed off and now there is no real eta for it.  I know there are a lot of users interested in this, but apparently it is not a high priority.  Scott has stated that his original estimate for the modifications was going to run about $320.  I assume that if we could get some support from those wanting it, this could be expedited.  Scott?

A possible short term option may be this module.  I haven't purchased it yet, but it may provide what we are looking for since the realistic implementation of integrated registration and subscription here is a questionmark.  Plus, it already uses PayPal and Authorize.net  Add in google payments and it might be just what we need.
