| Hi, I am looking for a virtual postcard module for my website. Here is what I am going to use it for and the features I will need. I run dnn 4 asp 2.0. I would like my visitors to register on my website and select different categories they would like to receive information on. Next, businesses who have accounts are able to log in and select a postcard and add text, tokens (for user names), upload their logo, select which group it should be mailed to, select date and time it should be mailed. Also they are able to go in and change their postcards they have created. Thanks in advance! Stephanie |

I recently wrote an eCard module for another client, if you contact me at sales@ventrian.com, I can point you to what I have done.
It doesn't do exactly what you want, but might be a good start. |

I just need a basic e-card module available to all users. It should have the ability to have at least 12 pictures and allow the user to enter this information.

Anything beyond this would be a bonus.
Would the module you wrote work for this? |

Very clean and simple but not exactly what I was looking for. That sends a link to the site. I would like to send the image (non flash) in the actual email.
You can see an example of what I was thinking here: http://www.packin.com/ecards.html (you don't have to register to send one.) |

I think the company that made the site did, I just built a few modules and extended simple gallery for there photo contest.

Thats for the link, your right, that's a little different to what I have, the module should be extended to support both modes.
The mode evenflo uses is good for driving people back into the site.

Scott,
Is this something you plan to release or can it already be done with one of your other great modules and I just haven't figured out how yet? I'd like to put together some inspirational eCards for a church site.

I do plan on releasing it this year, it needs some documentation and a re-check on usability.
If you send me an email, I'll send you the module in it's current form. (support@ventrian.com). This applies to any active subscribers on this thread. |

| I agree. I just checked out the evenflo site, and we could use a module like that. |

Hey Scott,
I just got visual studio 2005 installed on a development box and will be upgrading my existing church site to the latest version of DNN a bit later tonight (or tomorrow if I run into issues). Once that is done, I plan to get more active again and will be looking at your code over the weekend and hope to get it working on DNN 4.4.1
Will try to have something to view by the end of the weekend so long as nothing at my regular job pulls me away.

Scott,
as promised I have been testing the e-card module thoroughly and would like to post my thoughts on it.
Basic review (eCard.01.02.00)
The E-Card module is a flexible module for 'quickly' creating e-cards, able to be sent - as link to the site - to multiple recipients. Using RichText Editiors the administrator/s of the module can easily create e-cards including a seperate, fully manageable teaser (preview). Additionally the administrator/s has/have the option to edit the different stages of the e-card content to a certain aspect -> EntryPage, SendCard, ReceiveCard, NotAuthenticated, ThankYou.
Personal opinion:
I like that "gadget". However, I think that it is not as user friendly as other great modules from this site. I am deeply missing defaults for the editable content and documentation (i know it's beta stage - just mentioning). You should keep in mind that not every user which runs DNN is a great WebDesigner/HTMLCoder - and the ecard module in the current stage is not entirely ready to run on a production environment - as all content pages are empty (did I mention defaults already ). Other than that I think that it is a very neat addition to every dnn portal and items below is more of a wishlist than a necessary addition (for the next release).
- - View options - similar to the SimpleGallery module (incl. paging/cards per row, etc)
- - adding the option for the administrator for actual sending the e-card as html to the recipient/s
- - manageable required authorization (I know the current setup requires the recipient to register to view the card and this may be wanted ... but it should be editable in my humble opinion)
- - localization option (big one)
Bugs found:
- SendCard.ascx
BACK functionality NOT working - due requiredfieldvalidators
I will further test the module and post more comments in the next few days.

Scott,
more testing done and a few 'updated' thoughts now.
Wishlist extended:
- Manageable text for the email which gets send (template with TOKENS possibly)
- Usage statistic ... now this is something which I thought about a while before adding it to the wishlist, but at the end the admin (and most likely the users) want to know the usage statistic of the modules/website/etc. Maybe a possible SENDCOUNT for the actual amount of an ecard sent would already be approriate. (additional field in the db, and an altered sp ...
)
I got a little shocked when I readlized how simple I could drive the entire ecards gallery into the sand (in other words f*** it up). Because every ecard AND it's according teaser has its own html part this can very quickly happen - when not following own standards ... - and the ecard gallery (landingpage) looks ...erm, akward .
Standard is the word here I assume - there is no standard forced in the ecard module - like in the gallery module - and I could imagine people going crazy with html code (RichTextEditor) to get their main ecard page look alright. I personally love the flexibility but I am not certain if that is actually necessary for a 'relatively' small module like this one.
Back to more testing .. .
