For some reason over the past 5 days, my DNN portal has been getting bogged down signifigantly.  The w3wp process is regularly taking 95 percent of the CPU time.  Many times more.  Recycling the app pool doesn't do much, it goes right back up.  Is ther any way to identify which module is causing the problem?

Hi Shad,

i would look into the timer logs and see if a timer task is taking very long to complete.
You can also disable the timer temporarily to check if this makes a difference.
If a timer task is causing this problem you can then change its settings, do manual database maintenance, or even disable it if it's not needed.

Cheers,
Joe

The only entries in the scheduler are the DotNetNuke.Entities.Users.PurgeUsersOnline, DOTNETNUKE entries. They are very quick to run. 0.09ms.

Are you sure?
Is there no Indexing job (DotNetNuke.Services.Search.SearchEngineScheduler) and no cleanup of the Event Log and such stuff?

Are you on a shared server? Is there anything in the event viewer?

Bah sorry, meant to give more info.

Performance hadn't been great, but had been consistant until lately. Now I constantly get "Service Unavailable" errors (the host company dropping the website). When I asked them what was up they said it was an auto-feature which dropped sites for hitting (or was it exceeding) 20% CPU.

Host settings.

While we're at it when would and what is the benefit for using this?

Catch Up Enabled:

If checked, if the webserver is ever out of service, when the webserver is back in service this event will run once for each frequency that was missed during the downtime.
