A little question. Got an old site running DNN 4.4.1 and NA 5.49 that I am about to upgrade. Just trying to figure out which one to update first. I noticed that the latest NA requires DNN 4.5.5 to run so if I update NA before DNN it will not work. On the other hand I am unsure if NA 6.13 will run on such an old DNN-version? :-)

Or does it not matter which one I upgrade first? Any suggestions besides "always backup before"...?

Do an incremental upgrade on DNN.. Get it to at least 4.5.5, upgrade NA, then do the other upgrade to the latest DNN.

Best practice: 4.x to 4.6.2 to 4.8.x

This is a great blog to checkout at MitchelSellers:

Quote from MitchelSellers:
Incremental Upgrades?
One common question that I get from people is which version of DNN is safe to come from with a single upgrade to 4.8.2. In my experiences I have found that if you are on a version < 4.4.1 that it is best to first upgrade to 4.4.1, then to 4.6.2, then to the most current version. I know people that have had success with direct upgrades, but I have found them to be more successful following this pattern. If you are currently on a version between 4.4.1 and less than 4.6.0 I would recommend going to 4.6.2 first, then going to 4.8.2.

The main reason for this recommendation is due to the major changes in 4.4.1 regarding site performance and in the 4.6.x version and the authentication provider system.

End Quote...........

As far as when to upgrade NA? Dont know for sure...........
