Is there any method to get the images to auto-thumbnail to a certain set amount? I have seen Efficion's Articles module features this, and was wondering if this is implemented and I overlooked it, or that it is just not possible.. If it is possible, does anyone mind directing me to a source of help, or perhaps even post directly here.
BTW, News Articles looks like an amazing module!

| This currently isn't possible, but quite a few people have requested it, do you have an example of efficon doing this? I thought of just using the thumbnail generator from Simple Gallery. |

Hello,
Efficion's Articles module allows a field for thumbnail generation per module. If I had set a module to display the latest featured articles, the thumbnail size I set on that particular module is only expressed for that singular module only. You may check it out at my site I'm currently working on at |

Sorry about the big post count, I don't see an edit panel and just keep on thinking of information to add-on. Efficion's module actually creates a thumbnail of the main article image on the fly and displays it for the given article. When you add an article, it actually features an image upload link, and in the module "Settings" has a thumbnail width field you are able to specify thumbnail size.
Let me know if you'd implement this. For my site, www.zunenerds.com, it'd be very welcomed because my RightPane is smaller than the main content, and while I can do this manually, automation streamlines work much faster and allows me to be more productive doing something else.
This would be a great feature to add-on. I'd imagine tons of people looking to use it.

| Currently when you create an article, you can select an image. Would having a settings in admin options for a max width + height for the thumbnail, and a thumbnail token be sufficient? |

That wouldn't be too bad. With the option you suggested, would it be possible to have a different thumbnail size for every Latest Articles module inserted?
E.g., I have a Latest News in the Content Pane, and also a Music Highlights section in the right pane that would have smaller thumbs than the Latest News section. |

Hello Scott,
I was thinking more about the token you suggested. If you had a token, for example called [IMAGETHUMB:XXX], where XXX is repesenting the width of the thumbnail that will be generated, that youl be excellent.
That would overcome the problem with the Universal Image Width Set from an Admin Options, and with the token, it would allow people to specify different widths based on different templates they would use.
If this was implemented, not only would you cater to news sites/blogs, but also many other sites using a varient style similar to ww.thewiire.com, www.anandtech.com, and of course my upcoming sites who would use thumbs for a lot of articles. At this point in time, there is yet to be a forefront news script for DotNetNuke. I really believe implementing this would bring News Articles one step closer to that..
The support is great! Thanks! And if you do intend to implement this, what kind of turnaround do you think this would take? I don't mind donating if it takes this to get it up a bit quicker. I really want to use your script, and the only thing hindering my site right now is using a definitive news script (which pretty much runs all content on my sites). Efficion's free Articles module is great, but lacks good RSS support.. Since you also create the Friendly URLs (which I am having trouble using at this point.. Made a seperate post about that) project, using your News Articles would be a 1-2 punch for my sites.
Let me know.. =) |

I think you are right that a token is the best idea, because it really is based around display and should be kept there.
I don't have a schedule for when the change will be in, I've been working on Estate Agent and a few other things recently. If you send me a reminder email on Friday, I'll see what I can do (I maybe able to implement it then).

Sounds perfect. I'll drop you an email than. =) I just wanted to make sure, are you intending to do this so the thumbnail simply resizes the main image, or are you looking to develop it so the token actually generates a thumbnail? The lateral would be the more preferred choice as it would reduce download speeds for the user in the event I would have a very high resolution main image for a particular article. I don't mind that it would hammer my server more or use more bandwidth, as long as it would on the fly generate thumbs, than that would simply be.. fantastic.
Thanks for the help in advance Scott! |

| Can this be used with latest articles? I am interested in expanding my latest articeles listing from just the title to the title, the first few lines of the article and a thumbnail image. Is that currently possible? |

| At this current time, it is unavailable in the Latest Articles module. I am also looking for this feature to be added into the Latest Articles module, and hopefully it will be! |

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Scott just releaed the latest version of News Articles today. That's 2 updates in rapid succession.. A matter of two days.
I can also confirm that the Latest Articles module does work with thumbnails now. You can take a gander at my site in progress at http://www.zunenerds.com and heading over to the Music tab. On the right pane of that page, you should see a section called 'Popular Music' that is using the Latest Articles module and featuers thumbnails using the [IMAGETHUMB:XXX] token.
Thanks Scott for hearing what we are looking for in terms of suggestions. Hope my feedback has contributed to improving your module as well.
