Outstandind idea. Every time I send out a newsletter, I'm copying and pasting content/links from news items. The news is what the newsletter are all about afterall. This would be a dream solution.

If this is done, do you think you can create it using a separate newsletter\email module?
This feature could be in a separate NewsArticlesNewsletter module which also would make calls on a new SimpleNewsletter module API to send out this targeted information.
The SimpleNewsletter could have a scheduleEmail function used by the NewsArticleNewsletter where you can pass in content, datetime to send (including now), user roles to send to, etc.... and it would automatically schedule, queue\send the emails and produce reports retrievable via an interface.
The SimpleNewsletter can be very simple initially and just handle the email queuing and scheduling or only whatever is needed to satisfy this requirement. But is more features are requested and added to this, then the NewsArticleNewsletter module would also benefit.
Just my opinion on the implementation for this....

I'm sorry that I didn't see this thread before requesting a newsletter module here: http://www.smcculloch.net/Feedback/tabid/265/ctl/ViewFeedback/mid/648/FeedbackID/105/Default.aspx

I hope I am correct in assuming "targeted roles" means that I will be able to choose which roles can see any specific artcile I create!

Yes, that plus in sending newsletters you can select which roles will receive the mailing of the text. It would be even better if there was role specific content in the newsletter that displayed based upon roles authorized like in Magic Gadget.

Scott,
Is there any potential timetable on this option?

Do you mean that when you publish/save an article you can optionally choose to send it as an email newsletter to your users? I think Proeders publish module does something like this - very good idea.

Yeah, something like that. But I'd also like the ability to send the article at any time to a group(s) of users. Much like the built in module in terms of ease of use, but I'd like more. For example, it would be nice to have the option to send summary information with a link to the full article and to keep track of clicks, etc. Also to allow users to unsubscribe and subscribe from aretciles. For example an article could be tagged as a subscription article which would automatically be emailed to the subscribers, etc.

With you there - sounds perfect. Added benefit is that since it's a normal module you can allow staff/etc to send newsletters without having to grant admin rights (which they need for the core newsletter module)

Got my vote fo this Great idea to have the emailing option open, so if I have customers that find the article great they can send to another party, just by clicking a icon, "send a friend" and insert the e-mail
