It would be a great enhancement to be able to subscribe to email alerts by selecting your criteria the way that the SEARCH function works. Maybe email alerts could then be implemented in NewsArticles as well based on categories or authors.

I agree, altough, this might make more sense in Private Messages. It would be great to send out a message automatically when a property matching a user's "saved alert" with a link back to either the property directly (ideal) or to the PM module with a link to the property.

I have been begging for two things from DNN and Ventrian for years now.
1> A True Category/SubCategory extension that could be integrated in any/all modules.
2> The ability for users to opt in/out of updates and additions to specific categories
Keeping my users engaged in my site, and giving them instant notification to changes that interest them is critical. These additions would be invaluable to me.

How can you have a true category/subcategory extension that is integrated into any module? It forms such an integral part of a module (e.g. security/fitlering) that to have it seperated out through an API is very difficult.
Opt in/Opt out of categories will be available in property via subscription on property type.

This would be a great feature. One thing that hasn't been mentioned here as I guess its a finer detail would be the ability to define a html email template so that it can automatically send out a list of the properties added on a X weekly basis including links and some details.

Julia, couldnt you do this with the standard DNN newsletter? Your visitors would have to register at the site then you can pick which role to send a general newsletter to.

Notifications to the users is a good suggestion, but my clients would also like a notification to the admin when a property owner changes her content (maybe a particular case of the more general mechanism for notifications ?)

Notification to a role/user type of new/changed listings based on saved searches or saved search parameters or any custom field (admin sets a limit, like 5 criteria lists, much like Travelocity lets you sign up for .

This seems to be a very popluar request. I would like to know if this is being worked on, or should I start looking for other solution. For us this feature priority as changed from "nice to have" to "must have". I would really appreciate if Ventrain can let me if we can expect something related to email in a near future
