A new section with an option to turn it off just like the featured properties, search etc. called New Property Listings. This would automatically display a simple table listing or grid listing of the basic info with a link to the full listing based on the creation date for X days where X is a configurable option.

Great Idea -- would it use the listing template or would you require a new template?

I am not sure what you mean by "Listings Template" but I was thinking of having it appear on the same template as the Featured Propeties / Search / Types does and make the display function ality the same as those. Then have some way to identify what fields are displayed in the table or grid.

Sorry, I meant the layout files section, each section has it's own html files that control the layout.
I would probably add new files for this area of the landing page so you can customize it to your own end, it's a great suggestion though. This would allow you to use it for classifieds or anything where you might want to display the "latest".

I like Scott idea for displaying Latest Classified Listing with options for Product Type Filter + Featured Listing goes on top of the list. There would have to be a 'satelite' module so you can place it on any page.

Yes, the real question now is, should it be a companion module or part of the actual module like property types/search/featured ?
Would you have both featured and latest enabled or should the featured area be extended to be able to display latest as an additional section, but using the same template ?

I think there should be a featured properties companion module and for my purposes having the new listings as part of the landing page and I would always have the new listings enabled to make it easy for frequent visitors to see what is new. I would also most likely use the Featured Properties to showcase those listings.

I have run across another issue that I think this companion module could solve. I currently am setting up a livestock site with classified listings. There are different modules installed for the various types of listings since there layouts our so different. Such as Horses for sale and Tack for sale. It would be really cool if this module had the ability to be used as a master module. Same logic as the Master Event calendar in the core. So the user can chose which instances report back to this new companion module.
What does everyone else think?

What might solve this problem is just having a filter property like on News Articles. I would enter all of my items into one module and then copy the module to the different modules to display and filter out the ones I want

The problem with doing it like the News Articles is that I require different layouts and custom fields for the various listings and putting all the listings in one module would not allow for that.
