Add the ability to atleast have sub categories and possibly hierarchical categories. Using this, you could display a list of sub categories for a selected category provide atleast two levels down ability to view articles.

Rather than hierarchical categories, why not add additional fields in which the user can nominate sort and filter. This does provide the same end result but with more flexibility. I dislike separate category structures because a user can see a category even though there may be no entries for that category. Very annoying to the user.

As mentioned in some posts, The ability to assign view/edit permissions based on Category would be excellent.

Well, if the categories used the ListInfo and ListItem algorithm, with a 'tweak', they could see all listitems for that category...and drill down to less items based on sub category levels...

It would also be nice to have a catagory template tag that can be added to the display template and show the categories assigned to the article as links to all articles with that category. It would be even nicer if these could automatically be given the rel="tag" attribute so that Technorati and Ice Rocket pick up on these tags.

It is too difficult and confusing for the user to implement hierarchial categories when having multiple categories.
Instead, I believe a tag based solution would be better. Closing this feedback in replace of a tag based solution.
