Last week, I spent the week at Tech-Ed Australia on the Gold Coast. There were some great sessions and we also said goodbye to Frank Arrigo (who is leaving for a job in the U.S.)

During most of the week, I hung out with the guys from FreshView (FYI, they have a great newsletter service called Campaign Monitor). Most of the people at FreshView are University of Wollongong graduates as well! Here is a recent picture, they definately have the right ideas about how to make software and run a successful team.

I think the best demo from the week was an item in Nikhil's presentation that showed asynchronous file uploads using silverlight. Having the CLR on client computers is going to be a HUGE benefit, and made typical scenarios like this MUCH easier.Simple Gallery would definatey benefit from asynch uploads and asynch long running process (album synchronisation).

Another great presentation was related to a project called BackgroundMotion. This application was written to share dreamscenes (vista ultimate backgrounds), shows off a stack of technologies and in particular some design patterns. You also get the full source code!

Lastly, I'm back in the office and I've spiced up the top of my monitor with some gifts for my 29th birthday!

It was a good few days up on the sunny Gold Coast....

I'd have to say Nikhil was one of the better presenters there, I also got a bit out of his demos - it's actually got me going on a small Silverlight component atm.
