It's been a while since my last blog post, the main reason is that I have been extremely busy! Fortunately, things are beginning to slow down again so I can focus more on the next versions of each module.

My favourite module is still Simple Gallery, this module was developed for a local soccer club because they found it too difficult to use the photo modules out there at the time (2 years ago). I had no idea it would be popular.

A few of the features I think that could make it even better:-

  1. An upload control with progress bar.
  2. Enhanced synchronisation mode (that shows you the progress of synchronisation)
  3. Tags (including a tag cloud)
  4. Comments
  5. Ratings
  6. EXIF

Did I miss anything? Do you disagree?

The other thing I have been thinking about is expanding it to include video files (this would definately require a better upload control). I have already found a viewer which appears to work very well (version 2 was released today too) called LightWindow. What do you think?

LightWindow looks pretty cool. There are some things though that make me wondering... It depends on Prototype which is 100Kb and the overall weight of the js it uses is about 200Kb... a little scary, no? How do you plan to handle this? Then it needs a strict or transitional doctype but that probably won't be a problem, right?

Cheers!

I hope yuo can implement a role that let users edit own pictures (not all like today)

The comments and tags would be great, particularly since that functionality could be leveraged to other modules ;)

Ratings seems like an oft requested enhancements, and along those lines, a "number of views/most viewed" tool would be great too!

The main reason I bought a subscription was for the NewsArticles module, but the Simple Gallery module is right up there at the top of my "nice list." It is everything the core Gallery is not - simple interface, fast loading, easily customizeable... I had been looking for something that was just easy and plain that could go into any site design and acted like the Myspace picture galleries, and Simple Gallery fit the bill. Adding comments/ratings is exacty what I need to bring it up to par with NewArticles, which, in my opinion, is more than worth the cost of a subscription.

The ability to create albums from a file system structure would be very nice

I too would love users to be able to create their own album, and be able to edit them.... but no one else's of course... :-)

If they have their own album, being able to link directly to it would be cool as well... so only theirs shows up.

Hi I saw the LightWindow the integration of this would be great! Another great feature would be the Zoom Effekt from the lightbox Plus,as shows here:

tags and comments will be good, but another function that would be great is the ability to rotate an image. Hate to say this i'm sure facebook gets loads of comments but the facebook photo taging and rotating feature is very good, what is nice is the ability of the tag to recognise previous tags as well as friends names etc.

I've modelled the tag integration on flickr, this does allow you select previous tags or just type new ones in.

If you type an existing tag it matches it up with an old one.

I'll look into the rotation
