The Simple Gallery module has been fairly successful, originally it was designed as a replacement to the myriad of other photo modules out there because I had difficulty in explaining to novice users how to upload and create photos.

A common set of feature requests are:-

* More community facilities, e.g. comments, tags, ratings.

These features are interesting, tags offers another way of navigating between the albums and could be a great enhancement, with the addition of a tag cloud. Would this functionality confuse a potential user though? Maybe it should be switched off by default.

Comments and ratings are OK, but might lack the real estate on the popup window.

* More granular permissions

The only real problem with this, is the hierarchial albums, should permissions flow down album hierarchies?

* User-based albums.

This feature puts a different spin on the module, rather then having albums, we would need another way of displaying the selection of albums, the current layout wouldn't work for 100's or 1000's of user albums. I'm not even sure on what a good way of selecting a user's album would be?

Which feature do you most desire (if you are using Simple Gallery)? Or should the module be left alone now?

The elegance and simplicity of the Simple Gallery are it's primary attraction... for me anyways.

the simple gallery is great. i've used your simple gallery code as a foundation for my own flash gallery http://www.otbradio.com/artists/tabid/54/Artist/Ty/Default.aspx. but now i'm going back to your code again and striping out my flash because i find my site being a little too flash heavy. if there was one addition i'd like to see would be comments. i personally think tags are confusing for the "simple" user.

Would like to see the RSS.aspx include part of the images description.... then have all this added to the random gallery. (have posted feedback against simple gallery for more details)

I believe that the feature set is perfetcly alright. One major need in my opinion would be a more stylish look and feel of the whole module (as it is missing to most of DNN modules anyway) - using more ajax with loading images and stuff like that

If additional features are added I would like for them to be distinguished from the core gallery. So if a ratings\comments feature is added have that data stored in a separate table rather than add additional fields to the current photos table.

And also, rather than embed ratings and comments code directly with the core code for displaying photos and galleries, perhaps find a way to separate it with single one line function calls in the core gallery code to return photo ratings or comments.

People like this module because it's simple both in a users and developers standpoint. And as a developer, I'd like to see the code remain simple and easy to customize and so like the idea of separating all feature code into separate files as much as possible.

I think Simple Gallery is great, and I think that the idea to keep SG simple for the user is the way to go.

But I think adding other features that tie SG into the rest of a site is a good idea too: eg comments. This must be done in such a way so that it's simple for the user.

Tags too make it simple for "collections" to be generated by the user.

Hello Scott. Sumertime is time to take pictures and... make a personal use of the Simple Galery that I usually manage for my clients.

A few things that I'd love :

1. Option to display EXIF info from my good old Nikon 5000

2. Some bi-dimensional way to retrieve the picture, maybe through the concept of category, or keywords. When you get thousands of pictures, it's hard to decide how you want to classify (by events ? By year ? Places ? persons ? , etc. I'd like virtual albums either with aggregation of existing albums, and/or with filters

3. Link to dowload full size picture. for example I display 1000 pixel wide pictures for my family, but I'd like to offer an easy download of the picture in it's original size (often much wider than that with 5000 px+ cameras)

Hope everybody on this forum will have some good time taking pictures and using Simple Gallery for themselves

Benoit
