So I checked out Mambo today. An open source content management system for PHP.

It took me a while to get it going, but I ended up using the following to make my job a whole lot easier:-

I particularly liked the stepped process of installation for Mambo, it makes you review the license and pre-requisites (which it auto-detects) before installing. Very Nice!

I'll be making note of any things DotNetNuke could use.

One thing that makes me envious of mambo to just how polished the sites & controls look from a presentation standpoint. Not to say you can't achieve great results with top notch skinning in DNN... but I've rarely if ever seen quite the same polish on a DNN site. All in good time though... I hope.

I've been using Mambo for around 3 years now and have to say it's one of the best open source portals I've seen. A very professional administration area, really simple skinning, and a large number of modules readily available. Installation is really slick too.

There's also a community development and distribution environment at http://mamboforge.net for anyone developing modules and I've found developing modules for Mambo to be more straightforward than with DNN.

I like the consistent style to all modules, but don't like the options being in the right hand corner, seems a long way to move the mouse :)

It's funny, I just spotted that here: http://www.netshinesoftware.com/the-death-of-mambo.html
...and came by to comment on it. At first I thought maybe it was a rumor, until I checked it out on the mambo forums. Mambo is no longer Mambo.
