  News Article Walkthrough  

Screenshots can often tell you a lot more about a module then simple words. So I will attempt to guide you through the screens within News Articles for DotNetNuke.

 

1.)    Current Articles

 

Below is the default look of News Articles to an unauthenticated user. You have four options:-

 

a.       Current Articles: Displays a list of the current articles.

b.      Categories: Displays a list of categorized articles.

c.       Search: Allows you to search for articles.

d.      Syndication: Allow you to syndicate your article content to other websites in RSS format.

Next you’ll notice the News Articles content area, this area contains a number of important pieces of information such as:-

 

a.       Title (Membership F.A.Q.)

b.      Author

c.       Date/Time

d.      Number of Comments

e.       Number of Views

f.        Article Summary

 

Some articles have more than just the summary for content, and appear with a “Read More” link. The screenshot below demonstrates this:-

Clicking either the “Read More” link or the “Title” of the article will allow you to view that article and associated comments as shown in the screenshot below:-

If you were an authenticated user, you could optionally post a comment as shown below:-

Once a comment has been posted it appended to the other list of comments, and the comment count incremented.

 

2.)    Categories

 

Clicking on the categories link (located at top of screen) will show the categories page. This page shows a list of categories and the relevant number of articles below each category. It also displays a link to views these articles as well as the RSS syndication feed for that category.

3.)    Search

 

The search page allows you to search through all of the articles within the current module. You can search on category, date or keywords.

4.)    Syndication

 

Syndication allows you to provide your news article content to other web sites or even to other pages within your site. This is done via an XML file adhering to the RSS format.

When select one of the feeds, you will receive an xml file like:-

5.)    Submission of Articles

 

Once you have logged in to add or edit articles, you will be given a few extra options in the menu at the top of the module. These are dependant on your role within the portal, you can designate a role that can only submit articles, another role that can only approve and still have the general module admin role that can do everything plus configuration.

At the submit article you can enter an articles details (title, categories, summary, start/publish date, image). Note: Only the administrator will see the “Approve Checkbox”

From the submission page, you can save the article (leave it in draft), add more pages to the article, submit for approval or cancel the submission.

 

If you decide to add more pages, the screen looks like the following:-

6.)    My Articles

 

The “my articles” screen shows the articles you have created. You can filter articles by there status (draft, awaiting approval, approved).

7.)    Edit Categories

 

This screen allows you add/edit/delete categories.

8.)    Admin Options

 

The administration options allow you to customize the way News Articles functions.
